Honestly do you sometimes feel bothered that Geno doesn't get as much love as other nhl players? I feel some get quite overpraised for doing the same things they berate him for. When it's others standing up for their team they're standup guys but when it's Geno they think he's a liability. Then on a player's perspective, uncertain since we're not in their shoes, but do you think they sometimes feel unappreciated by the fans despite their efforts?
Hooo boy, let me tell you.
YES, it’s aggravating as hell. Geno is so underappreciated. Being left off the top 100 list is clear proof of that. I’ll always be bitter about that and I’ll never stop complaining about it. Geno has been underappreciated by the NHL in general, fucking Bettman, Pens staff and fans. I think any NHL player should expect that some fans will be shitty but to be so undervalued by the org or NHL in general is shitty beyond measure.
Yes, I do think players sometimes feel unappreciated by fans. Fans can be excessively shitty. (See: Matt Murray, Jack Johnson, etc.) Geno has even called out fans’ shit recently, when they booed MM. I did not think MM or JJ were right for the team, I was not happy with their play. But god damn, the shit they endured from the fans was next level.
Does Geno ever feel that way? Who knows, but I would venture to say probably. He and Sid and are in a unique position, though, in that for every shitty fan, there are luckily tons more who love them and express that. Given all of that, I think he’s handled himself remarkably well.
