My father from a young age taught me that respect was not needed in order for love to occur. He taught me that being treated like shit, still meant they loved you. His harsh words to my mother taught me that that abuse, was normal. Having grown up now, I’ve realised just how toxic I’ve allowed men to be with me, I’ve opened my heart to those I knew were going to hurt me. Plainly because it felt familiar. The abuse within a relationship with a man was all I knew, it was all I was ever taught. Be gentle with your daughters, for they will learn to grow up to love a man whom treats them like you did.
