The way one of Katniss’s first interactions with Peeta is to defend him. When Haymitch punches him for knocking over his drink, Katniss picks up Peeta’s energy immediately and the next move Haymitch makes is blocked by Katniss’s knife. She’s ready to go into battle with that boy and take all the hits he takes. This is moments after she reminds herself she’s going go have “nothing more to do with him” btw.
