Okay friends, let me tell you a little about this amazing book, because you all should read it. Let me tell you, this book is the epitome of "don't judge a book by its cover". I can't tell you how many times I got weird looks carrying it around. Of course people assume that it's a questionable book based on the cover, but I guarantee you, it is certainly worth the read. Why? This book has more representation than any book I've ever read. Heck, it has more representation than any fanfiction I have read, which is really saying something. In the book there are: 1. A transgender woman 2. Women of color 3. A lesbian 4. A hearing impaired woman 5. A woman who isn't ashamed that she enjoys sex 6. Lots of feminists 7. Just lots of really amazing women okay The book is about a bunch of pageant girls who are in a plane crash and get stuck on an island alone. One might assume that because they are all pageant girls, that there is no depth to the story at all, but I cannot begin to tell you how wrong that assumption is. It's beautiful because you get the opportunity to see the girls come to life. They learn to fend for themselves, and they actually talk about important things that need to be brought to attention. For example, there are conversations about: 1. How people assume that women are not as capable as men. 2. The impact that society has on people's confidence and body image 3. How hard it is to live up to others' expectations 4. The struggle of not wanting to make the same mistakes your parent(s) have 5. The difficulty of being something that society deems 'different' Now if all of that isn't good enough, keep in mind that this book is written to be humorous. It's really hysterical, but not at the expense of others, and it does an amazing job of pouting out the immense absurdity of society's expectations. In fact, the book contains a sub plot about America's consumerism. It points out how it can be corrupt by taking it and blowing every product that is mentioned out of proportion. I am completely incapable of explaining to you how amazing this book is, but if there is one thing you should take from this, it is that you should go read this book. Everyone should read it because it does a phenomenal job of pointing out the flaws in our society, while still teaching how to make the best of these flaws.
