The sun ambushed him on the morning of his death The hangman offered him a smoke The guards were changed at the routine hour of six He was still a young folk

The sun belittled his countless dreams of women The only one that mattered, dead So he smiled that he may soon be with her there And maybe soon be wed

The sun struck half past overdue, and still he breathed They brought his lunch on silver trays He skated round his expanding cell, while he thought I have had much worse days

The sun cascaded from the sky, it threw itself With urgency into the ground The clock will chime and I’ll walk free And laugh without a sound
