I’m honored as always to have been recognized in the latest wave of Exemplar Program recognitions for several aspects of my judge work, including for the work I do on this blog.

Hey i was wondering how exactly judges earn judge promos?

Judge foils/promos aren’t earned. They’re not payment for anything.

In the past, judges would receive judge foils for working at Grands Prix and Pro Tours but this is no longer the case.

Currently, judges receive judge foils in two ways:

Judges who attend a judge conference in their region will receive some judge foils for attending. This is to encourage attendance at the conferences and to help offset travel costs for judges coming from farther away.

Presenters and other staff at the conference usually receive an extra foil for their additional work.

Judges who are recognized by their peers through the Exemplar Program will receive some judge foils. The exemplar program allows L2 and L3 judges to acknowledge the judges in their areas and the program as a whole who are going above and beyond baseline expectations and making a difference.
