A sneak peek at the framed "The Nightingale and the Mystery of Love" just back from the framers today along with some of my other paintings. It's 27 X 33.5 X 5cm, acrylic and water soluble pastels on canvas. I'm hanging my "A House Of Pomegranates" exhibition this Thursday for opening night on Friday so lots of last minute things to do! Anyone on my email list will get a first preview notification when all the paintings for the show go up on my website tomorrow 🤞🏼. If you would like to be on my mailing list sign up at www.michellehartonart.com or message me your email address and I will add you. 🙂 #framedart #thenightingaleandtherose #oscarwilde #exhibitionpreview #exhibitionprep #irishartistsofinstagram #irishartists #femaleartistsofinstagram #cavanarts #culturecavan #culturenight2019 https://www.instagram.com/p/B2hyahFiB00/?igshid=vsrzp7s0dn8n
Working on this painting inspired by "The Birthday of the Infanta", it's all the activity in her garden on the day. I'm getting to sneak some animals in too. 🦎🦔 If you'd like to see some videos of this painting being created check out my Instagram Stories. Its a pretty big one 160 X 75cm on unprimed canvas, which I continue to experiment with. I love how I can get watercolour type effects on it. Lots more to do! #oscarwilde #thebirthdayoftheinfanta #thefairystoriesofoscarwilde #exhibitionprep #myartstudio #paintingbig #watercoloureffect #contemporaryartwork #irishartistsofinstagram #culturenight #loveculture #culturecavan #irishcontemporaryart #pomegranates #lemons #hedgehogart #lizardart https://www.instagram.com/p/B2E6eXPiUCi/?igshid=120vl2ote10v
XL Exhibition placement part 1 - ( Home edition ) VIS3001
The images above show me combining both ‘made’ and ‘found ‘ elements from my house, as I was exploring different narratives and different ways in which I could exhibit my work for my final exhibition . As the piece wasn't XL in size I wanted it to have a huge effect on the audience , or at least get them thinking about what it could be about . My main focus up until this point had been IVF treatment and the emotions and reasons why people opt for it but I found that as I was making different parts for the exhibition, my thought process was edging more towards miscarriage and the idea of losing something that a person yearned so much for .
I had already produced the umbilical cord pieces when I found myself thinking about ways of moving the work forward; what else could be added to enhance the narrative behind It? I figured that because my research was about making babies, I would try and create one to add to the exhibition. I decided that I wanted to use delicate materials to make the baby, as they are delicate beings .
I created a prototype of a small human figure just to see if I was capable of getting the shape right , as the human form is one of my weaknesses in the art world . I didn't want the piece to be an interpretation of a baby , I wanted it to look like one (literal). I managed to produce something decent . Content with the outcome, I went on to make a bigger sculpture out of masking tape .
I made a much larger one out of sellotape but found that I couldn't manipulate the tape to create a smooth silhouette and it kept unravelling .
I took pictures of the baby with the plastic fusions along with an alcohol bottle and some of my daughters toy blocks.
Pile of paintings. Got to d string and wire them ready for hanging first thing tomorrow. Am so not ready. My printer has decided to not work. Due to mysterious technical “not connected” issues do I can’t print my labels. What is it with printers!!! No idea how to string and all that neither. And I really *should* paint the edges of the box frames. Freaking out a bit to be honest!
