“Life’s a circus and I am the jester.” — H.W.
Yeah.
Nothing personal but… some people sure are uh. Some people.
Living my life constantly oscillating between these two states.
What They Will Remember About You
What do people put on monuments? What will people remember about you when you are gone? As a Memorialist, I have been blessed with a unique look into what people choose to memorialize after you are gone. Please let me tell you, it's everything you think people don't notice. You are seen.
Daily writing promptWho are your favorite people to be around?View all responses One of the most beautiful aspects of working with Eternal Legacy Memorials was seeing what people remembered about those who had gone before them, the things that they cared about enough to carve in stone and look at for decades to come. Because it’s never the things we are taught matter. It’s rarely their…
Stress Maintenance During a Major Life Change
How do you manage stress during big life changes? How do you confront the person you were told to be, and live as your authentic self? Today, let's talk about releasing pressure and learning to live authentically.
Have you ever experienced a major life change? The kind where you fundamentally cannot return to the life you lived before, and you find yourself in this bizarre middle-scape where you can see who you were just on the horizon, and the pale specter of who you will become off in the distance while the you that exists presently just…hovers in the middle. Y’all, training a Siberian Husky ain’t fucking easy
Don’t do this to your kids
My stepmom sent me a text today (something she very rarely does) asking me if I was mad at her. Why? Because I don’t ask about how she’s doing when I call my dad.
Here’s the deal. Used to be, before my dad retired, that when I called my stepmom would answer the phone and I’d spend most of the call talking to her. Lately, dad answers the phone and immediately puts me on speaker. I have zero idea where he is in the house but at some point during the call, my stepmom is in the room. How do I know? Because they talk to each other while on the phone with me. And I can hear my stepmom commenting on what my dad’s saying.
I always, always start off with, “how are you? How’s [Stepmom]?” How do I know where the hell she is when I ask this question? And if she’s all fired up to speak to me, then why doesn’t she ask my dad to hand off the phone to her?
No, I get a text, putting me on the spot and leaving me to manage her feelings.
DON’T FUCKING DO THIS CRAP TO YOUR KIDS!
Part of me is like, what the fuck, lady? But because I’ve dealt with this type of bullshit for years, in various ways, I apologize, “I’m sorry that you’ve been feeling neglected”; I offer an explanation, “dad always has me on speaker, assumed I was speaking to both of you”; and smooth the waters, “I’m not mad at you!”
It’s going on 40 years and it’s still my job to make the adults around me feel better. I’m tired.
