"Contasts of Forms" 1913 oil on burlap by Fernand Léger (1881-1955) at @courtauld the Courtauld Gallery in London. Written near the painting: In 1913 Léger declared: "Pictorial contrasts used in their purest sense (complementary colors, lines and forms) are henceforth the structural basis of modern pictures". "Contrasts of Forms" is one of a series of paintings from this year, which Léger composed with purely abstract shapes relating to his recent images of billowing smoke and rooftops.
