Analysis of a Second Scholarly Source
Summary: Asian American women are seen as “desiring subjects” and “working subjects” (Linda & Sciachitano, 2000). Linda and Sciachitano states, “Our exoticized/eroticized bodies have been sold in the transnational sex industry” (2000). Going back to history, when the US military went to Asia, the Asian women served the US military with sex. Asian women were seen as sex objects. They were also seen as erotic women for men in need of service (Linda & Sciachitano, 2000). Asian women serving these men was a big business.

Reading this journal article, I agree with the history on Asian women servicing the US military men in Asia. This depicts on how the “submissive and sexualized Asian woman” came about. This type of business these Asian women were in are cruel and dangerous. They were not seen as people but objects. There is no aspect in the article that I disagree with. A question that may be raised is “What made Asian women get into the human trafficking business?” An answer to that may be they were forced or had no choice.
Compared to the other two sources, this source relates to an event back in history. Because of what happened in Asia with the US military, stereotypes of Asian women resulted today. My two other sources talks about how Asian women are viewed as submissive and sexualized nowadays. This source relates to material discussed in class by we learned about getting to know people and not basing people on stereotypes. It is important to get to know people and disregard any useless stereotypes that exists. Also, we read a poem in class called, “When I Was Growing Up” by Nellie Wong and how she felt like an “exotic gardenia” with a white man. When referring to a woman as exotic, that typically means a sexually submissive woman.
