On This Day In History: August 18, 1989 saw the opening of City Center Mall in Downtown Columbus, Ohio.  The mall was a hit in its early years.  After a fatal gang-related shooting in 1994, followed by the opening of three suburban shopping centers in the following years - The Mall at Tuttle Crossing (1997), Easton Town Center (1999), and Polaris Fashion Place (2001), City Center struggled.  The mall closed its doors in March 2009, and was razed along with the sky bridge over Rich Street connecting the Mall with the Parking Garage) between Autumn 2009 and Winter 2010.  The Sky Bridge over High Street connecting City Center with the defunct Lazarus store was razed in the Fall of 2008.  John F. Wolfe Columbus Commons was built in its place, with the park opening in May 2011, and buildings were strategically built in phases surrounding the park between 2013 and 2018.

9.26.17 Lunchtime drawings: A bicycle ride through Columbus, Ohio and four drawings. 1. Ohio Stadium (on the National Register of Historic Places) at Ohio State University, which has a rotunda that looks a little like the dome of the Pantheon in Rome. 2. Revisiting the “scaffolding” at the Wexner Center at OSU, designed by architects Peter Eisenman and Richard Trott, someone walking by informed me this was the, “most photographed place on campus.” Maybe. 3. “Danger Dam Restricted Area” reads a red sign on the Olentangy River, with someone fishing off to the right. 4. Clouds reflected in the Scioto River.
