also, elordi's performance really stunned me. to follow a reign of creature performances from doug jones and not only match that, but to bring a voice to such a character so carefully, is something else.
you could see all the subtle choices he made through a creature actively learning from the world around him (largely in his speech and his walk), all the while making him a sensitive being in spite of his immortality. when he curls away from the brightness of the sun, or flinches from fear, my heart is torn in shreds every time <//3 :(

more detailed closeups and written insight about this piece beneath the cut
"they kill the storytellers first" has been rattling in my head for hours since it was said this episode and will stick with me for a very long time, and an ever-present reminder as to why the arts and humanities are so important and need protection.
for any person that chooses to create (whether you're good or "bad,") i hope you realize the power you hold. to connect with something, to make color and sound and words to feeling, and to share in community is so important in a time where there is an intentional means to isolate and withhold any sound or resonance to the world around you. it's the very reason why the arts are underfunded and dismissed, because it's a power everyone can hold to withstand the weight of these administrations.
more than ever, i hope artists and creatives realize how needed you are. beyond speaking for the times or making something that means anything, simply finding shape and poetry where it’s simply impossible to feel it’s there anymore is so important.
even if you make just fanart, even if you draw that same character and shitpost about them obsessively, or do it not for money but as a thing to do during your breaks at work; even if you know no one will see it and do it anyway, you make this all so meaningful. and especially to all the artists across the water and border lines. your reach is so monumental and has shaped myself as an artist in ways i could not express. i’m so indebted to you. you are so loved.
??????!?!!! WOAH
planning to do proper artwork of him soon, but take these practice sketches for now
