Too much stuff
In case you doubt that we Americans are being buried in the things we own, notice the storage units popping up almost as fast as dollar stores.
Our clutter is so copious that our basements and attics can’t handle it; our junk won’t fit into our three-car garages, our garden sheds, our pole barns … We have to rent off-site containers just to hold possessions we rarely - or never - use.
A not-so-fun fact: the garages at 70 percent of American households cannot accommodate cars because their filled with things other than cars.
A storage unit generally costs between $50 and $250 per month, depending on the size, location, security level, etc. The national average cost for a medium size unit is around $120 per month.
