anyone who enjoys Christopher Barnatt's Explaining Computers youtube videos and finds his presentation style really curious is just not old enough to get the inside joke, which is that back in the 60s and 70s, late night and early mornings the BBC used to air videos for people studying at the Open University (which is still happily running as a way to do distance study for degrees full or part time, sort of more at your own pace, for working people or those who can't manage in-person universities)
and those videos were kind of cult level famous because most of them were presented by very autistic professors with very attenuated presentation skills - and anyone who grew up watching those stoned at midnight will instantly recognise the style
