It's a Romeo and Juliet reference. "A lot alike the other spells dignity-wise" is riffing on the "two houses, much alike in dignity" line from the prologue; the joke picks up that "amulet" has a very similar structure to "Capulet," one of the two families, and the punchline is to make a similar change to the other: Montague -> omtague

So, I'm not Catholic, but your St. Veronica tag on the feeding Jesus like a horse post made me laugh so hard despite me not having any idea who St. Veronica is. I know I could just look her up, but since you had the idea to tag something as 'St. Veronica-core' I was wondering if you could explain in your words who St. Veronica is and what exactly it means to be St. Veronica-core

St. Veronica was the lady who witnessed Jesus carrying to cross and went to wipe his face and the imprint of the face is still there.

Baker Street is the historical end of the Metropolitan Railway line so it was a natural transition from "the Web of Fear" (late 60s Doctor Who episode featuring Yeti in the Underground) into a Shelock Holmes encounter. Will Holmes successfully solve the case and send him home to Exeter or will Jonathan tire of his methods and abscond into a new random London encounter?

It's been a month and as you can see the ideas are getting a little thin. *shrug* They can't all be winners.

Hey friends,

I just wanted to say a couple of things about the Goncharov joke I made the other day:

First, I do not regret it, because I still think it’s hilarious.

But more seriously...

I didn’t try to edit IMDB. It’s a public record and it’s important that we don’t vandalise those. The only reason to try and change or annotate a public record is when they are wrong, and then it’s really important to try and get it changed or annotated. In this case, I just did a very quick editing job with Paint.NET, my free art app of choice.

I waited until Lynda Carter (or her team on her behalf) had already made a joke about Goncharov to show they were in on it, and probably wouldn’t be confused or offended. Once I saw they were likely to get the joke, I went ahead with it.

Once I had posted, I didn’t flag it with Lynda Carter or her team in any way. It’s generally a bad idea to pester celebrities with your own fan works for a lot of reasons -- it can overwhelm and offend to start with, which is reason enough, and what I was concerned about in this case. But depending on the fanwork it can also have legal implications (eg. if they are a writer and you send them a written fanwork, it opens them to a possible copyright infringement lawsuit if they come up with a similar idea off their own bat later). In this case, I just tagged it “Lynda Carter” and she or her team likely found it that way. I’m tickled pink that they did and also thought it was funny and worth a reblog, but it’s not something I sought out.

I also made some changes to the screepcaps I used in the post, which were from Starsky & Hutch. I generally always make some kind of edits to screencaps so they are transformative works. In this case, I changed the colour-grade so they looked more like the right genre, and did a bit of cleaning up and cropping because I just got them from YouTube and the quality wasn’t great.

I wanted to make this post because I’ve seen a few people in the tags wonder who had changed IMDB to add Goncharov to Ms Carter’s page. Maybe they were just making very meta jokes, but in case they weren’t -- I didn’t change anything and IMDB’s entry for Lynda Carter is still barren of Goncharov.

Please don’t try to change public records for a joke. It’s a very terrible idea.

If you see anyone confused by the Goncharov joke I made, please direct them here to put their mind at ease.

Thanks to everyone who enjoyed the joke -- seeing the notifications come in has kept me amused for days now.

Explaining the joke: In Time Bokan 24′s fourteenth episode "The Ninja Hattori Hanzō Was Actually a ______!", the true history is that famed ninja Hanzo Hattori instead was a stage magician.  While it might be easy to think the gag is that ninja magic like one sees in media was trick magic, it’s actually another goofy pun!  Hanzo throughout the episode tells his audience that it’s his Hanzo Power ( ハンゾパワー) that lets him perform his magic.

The popular Japanese magician Mr. Maric (Mr.マリック) has a signature phrase that he uses to describe what he uses to perform his illusions: Hand power (ハンドパワー)!  This is overtly spelled out by Tokio when he initially mishears Hanzo’s technique as such!  In addition, when Bimajo shows up to ruin the act, Tokio almost mistakenly identifies her as Mr. Maric!

But it’s Bimajo who takes the reference and gag further...

Sporting a different outfit, Bimajo identifies herself as Dr. Bimajo while she goes on to explain the truth behind how every illusion is pulled off.  This too...

...is a reference to Japanese magicians!  Her outfit and name are evoking Dr. Leon (Dr.レオン), another popular illusionist who has performed his feats on all sorts of shows and stages.  While both are relatively unknown in a casual Western audience, Dr Leon has even been involved with providing some trick ideas to David Copperfield.  David Copperfield’s most famous trick, you might recall, was making the Statue of Liberty disappear before a live audience...
