An Urban Myth - The “Witch’s Grave” of Old St. Thomas Church, in Ontario, Canada. This grave belongs to Maria Ermatinger, wife of a reverend. Nowhere in history is there mention of her being a witch, but this tall, black gravestone surrounded by four poles has inspired multiple stories. Some say the grave spontaneously lights on fire on Hallow’s Eve every year. Others say that the grave was set on fire out of spite by townspeople who disliked Maria and her money. The grave is surrounded by four poles that used to be connected by chains to prevent people from walking over Maria’s resting place. The chains are gone now, and it is said that you are cursed if you walk between the four poles. Others say there is a black cat that roams the graveyard protecting this grave, and that it has been alive since Maria’s death. In reality, the grave (made of white sandstone) has likely changed colour over time due to the effects of weather. Maria passed away shortly after childbirth due to infection in 1863. . . . . . . #witchsgrave#witch#superstition#paranormalontario#exploreon#exploreontario#stthomasontario#hauntedontario (at Old St. Thomas Church) https://www.instagram.com/p/CYPXikHuAmw/?utm_medium=tumblr
