Crawford Priory is yet another tragic example of a beautiful historic building lost to time and left to ruin.

First built by the Earl of Crawford in 1758 as a hunting lodge, it underwent significant renovations in the early 19th century by Lady Mary Lindsay Crawford. Although the priory had no religious history, it was built in a strikingly gothic, ecclesiastical style with buttresses, turrets and pinnacles; by 1872 a tall gothic tower and an adjacent Episcopal chapel were also added.

The Priory was occupied up to the death of the 2nd Baron Cochrane of Cults in the late 1960s, whereupon it fell into disrepair and disuse due to being too expensive to maintain. Sadly only the outer shell of the building now remains, a haunting skeletal ruin reclaimed by nature.
