Our Students Thoughts on IYECon
Currently many of our Exploring College Scholars are writing their personal statements. Some were willing to tell you all a little bit about themselves. This is Aaron! Future Interests:
Jobs in Healthcare and Occupational Therapy or Registered Nursing
Why?
I want to help people. For example, in Occupation Therapy you set goals with people so by the end of the month you could possibly help someone to be able to drive again after an injury.
Do you have a possible major in mind?
Occupational Therapy
Prospective Schools?
Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, NY
St.Elizabeths College in Utica, NY
Duchess Community College Poughkeepsie, NY
What qualities do you value?
I value honesty, justice, and family.
I think I have those qualities and I appreciate them in others.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I would like to be an Occupational Therapist in or around Duchess County.
Meet another Exploring College Scholar, Serena! Future Interests:
Linguists or a Psychologist, but I also was considering becoming a Teacher.
Why?
I love languages and I think Psychology is interesting.
Possible Major:
French and Psychology
Prospective Schools:
Belmont University
Duchess Community College
What qualities do you value:
Loyalty, Honesty, and Confidence… I think those are what make good friends so those are the qualities that I value.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years:
With a steady job and a nice house.
Advice:
Try not to stress out. Take your time.
A snapshot behind the scenes of the first EC SAT Tutoring session of the year!
This past weekend many of our EC scholars took their SAT Diagnostics. Test Prep season has begun!
This past Wednesday we hosted a Junior/Senior workshop open to both our scholars and their parents about the College Application process.
Vassar initiated the Exploring College program in 2009 to increase college attendance rates for promising students from low-income families in Poughkeepsie and nearby. Almost all of the participants do go on to college, but NaIa Jackson is the first who will attend Vassar.
