recently, I was re-listening to the album Ulysses Dies at Dawn by The Mechanisms. It’s a really good album- really the whole band is amazing. All the albums tell stories, and its overall amazing.
anyway; I was listening to the album, and I noticed how it sorta reflects our current situation. The City starts using human brains to power it against their will whenever they die (like how we keep lowering the minimum wage, and people have to survive off of scraps when they’re the ones holding society together), and so super rich people basically buy their immortality so that they never have to be in the brain super computer (like our richest people avoiding taxes and getting away with it along with countless other crimes).
A person who helped the City feels immense guilt after driving an entire city insane just to help his own, and so he makes something so that he’ll never have to be part of the brain super computer by making a safe haven where he can die and never be found- and then takes it for himself and doesn’t let anyone else use it aside from his wife. (Representing the people who find solutions to this horrible country’s problems, then keeps it for themselves)
A man who married his mother and killed his father is trying to flee the City using any means possible. (Sorta represents how ICE thinks all immigrants are- terrible people, even though they’re not. This guy found the cure to a terrible disease plaguing the city, and he didn’t even know the person he married was his mother, and in a live show it’s hinted that the whole marrying his mother thing was made up by the media).
One of the many sons of Zeus killed his entire family against his will, then is sent to hell to retrieve hades’s dog- he ends up being forced to do a job so he can be pardoned by hades. (All the immigrants who are painted as terrible people, and are forced to do things just so they can live)
Theres a bunch more similarities, but I don’t want this to turn into an essay. Tldr, go listen to the mechanisms and also thank you so much for counting this, it brings so many people hope :]
I liked this essay, for what it’s worth.
