she had wholeheartedly planned to be there early, had wholeheartedly believed she’d be there to babysit as she always was. she’d gotten ready, she remembers that much. but suddenly it’s morning and she’s in the woods. perhaps more alarmingly: she’s covered in blood. fear overwhelms her, she has no idea what’s going on. gaze drops to her leg, where there had been a bite from an animal just days ago. she remembers being attacked, she remembers it, and yet her leg is fine. no bite. no trace of anything ever happening.
the only place she can think to go is dustin’s place. because maybe, just maybe, she did actually babysit. maybe she went and it was fine and somehow she ended up in the woods covered in blood after she babysat jason., was that any better? no, maybe not. still, she couldn’t think of any other place to go.
and so, no later than six in the morning, rory finds herself knocking on dustin’s bedroom window. covered in blood and beyond scared she has no idea what his reaction will be, has no idea what anyone’s reactions would be. safer going to the window she decided, less people will see him talking to a blood-covered girl. if she did do something bad she doesn’t want to drag him down with her.
