Extra Pages

So, because I had condensed a lot of memory keeping into several pages in front of the journal, I had a lot more pages than I was expecting. Especially because I can technically condense a weekly log into a single page.

I decided to have decorated but blank pages to write or scrapbook in. While I did find uses, such as putting in finished Sudoku puzzles or a finished membership card, I'm actually finding difficulty in using them.

As a result, I have decided to allow myself to expand my weekly logs back to two pages and just reduce the amount of extra pages. In fact the pages that won't be used for this month, if I have something I want to put in, I'll just go back to the January (and February) pages and put them in there instead.

It does mean that things will be out of chronological order, but that may be better in the long run.

Memorandum on the Obligation of Jujutsu Sorcerers

(extra pages of tankobon vol 22. translated below)

On behalf of the Japanese Government, Zenin family, Gojou family, and Kamo family decided on the following memorandum for all Jujutsu sorcerers.

1. Mission

[1] The mission of jujutsu sorcerers is to maintain the peace and safety of society by preventing the calamity from cursed technique, curse spirits, and cursed objects. [2] All jujutsu sorcerers must obey this memorandum. The rules established in this memorandum are applied to prioritize the laws and ordinances.

2. Jujutsu Headquarters

[1] The Jujutsu Headquarters is established in the Japanese Government as the highest institution to regulate jujutsu sorcerers [2] The Jujutsu Headquarters are appointed by the Prime Minister based on nominations from Zenin family, Gojou family, and Kamo family.

3. Jujutsu Technical College

[1] The Jujutsu Technical Colleges are established in Metropolitan Tokyo and Kyoto Prefecture as an institution of education, guidance, and supervision for jujutsu sorcerers. [2] Headmaster as the leader of Jujutsu Technical College administers all matter in relation to the development and threat of jujutsu sorcerers, and have the rights to command and supervise of all jujutsu sorcerers. [3] Headmaster is appointed by Jujutsu Headquarters based on the recommendation of Zenin family, Gojou family, and Kamo family. [4] Jujutsu Headquarters has the rights to command Headmasters. However, in an urgent situation, Jujutsu Headquarters can command and supervise all jujutsu sorcerers directly.

4. Grade of Jujutsu Sorcerer

[1] Jujutsu sorcerers can be established into Special-grade, First grade, Second grade, Third grade, or Fourth grade. Jujutsu sorcerer of higher grade can instruct jujutsu sorcerer from lower grade regarding their mission. [2] Jujutsu Headquarters grant or change certification of jujutsu sorcerers grade following fair and reasonable standards. [3] Jujutsu sorcerer will be able to accept salaries and benefits according to their grade based on rules of Jujutsu Headquarters.

5. Punishment

If a jujutsu sorcerer doesn’t obey a command or violates the obligation established in this memorandum, the Jujutsu Headquarters can impose one or more of the following punishments: [a] Public death penalty [b] Secret death penalty [c] Curse user designation [d] Being sealed [e] Detention [f] House arrest [g] Property confiscation

6. Retirement

[1] Jujutsu sorcerer will be able to retire based on the approval of Jujutsu Headquarters. After retirement, the jujutsu sorcerer shall have no grade. [2] After jujutsu sorcerer retires, they are not allowed to exercise cursed technique. However, this rule does not apply in a necessary situation to follow the next obligation.

7. Responding to Threat

[1] Cursed spirits, cursed objects, and curse users pose threat. [2] If a jujutsu sorcerer encounters a threat, they must report directly to Headmasters. The headmaster will determine the grade of threat based on report, notify the Jujutsu Headquarters, then organize and dispatch the necessary personnel and equipment to suppress the threat.

8. Secrecy

Jujutsu sorcerers shall not reveal the existence of cursed technique, cursed spirits, and cursed objects to non-sorcerers. However, this rule does not apply if the situation is necessary to obey the previous obligation.

9. Protection of non-sorcerers

Jujutsu sorcerers shall not harm non-sorcerers using cursed technique, cursed spirits, or cursed objects. Also, do not overlook threat that can harm non-sorcerers. However, the rule does not apply when it’s unavoidable to protect one’s or other’s life.

She swung her legs carelessly, high in the branches of the evergreen tree. It was cold. No, it was frigid. With the sun far gone into the night, and nothing to stop the wind from attacking in every direction, the frozen air bit into her with gruesome ferocity.

And she reveled in it.

She loved losing feeling to her nerves, the elements trying desperately to convince her body to forget itself. Loved to behold her breath linger in front of her, proof that her existence could not be ignored. Loved to barely be able to move her muscles, everything conspiring to deny her will. But it never worked. They could try, but she would always triumph. Carmin against the world. And Carmin had yet to lose.

She let her mind wander, changing subjects with each shift in the wind. Everyone else was pent up inside, cowering from the wind, worrying about the plan. Still. Carmin rolled her eyes. That’s all they did these days. At this point they may as well start memorizing a script. What a silly idea. No matter how much planning you put into a fight, you can’t expect every move ahead of time.

Carelessly she sat, swinging her legs still, numbing them. Their plan was in just a few more days, three if she remembered right. She wasn’t worried though. She knew what she was doing. Just as long as nobody got in her way, everything should go perfectly. Ever since she had one as a teacher, she had those monsters completely wrapped around her fingers, just like everyone else.

Little click-clicks and crunch-crunches rang up from the ground. Someone’s shoes, expensive ones, on the hard ground and frost-layered patches of snow or grass. She grinned. A victim. Glancing down through the needle-coated branches, she expected to see a slow-moving light from their lamp but there was none, just a dark silhouette against the lights from camp a decent walk away. Her smile widened. She knew that figure anywhere.

Swaying with the winter breeze, creeping with the midnight shadows, Carmin descended from her tree in complete silence. The figure stood beside a thick trunk with their arms behind their back in a parade rest. They took a cathartic breath of frigid air and relaxed, witnessing their own proof of existence expelled through their lips. Carmin crept up behind them, a stick held as a knife. And waited. Masking her breaths behind theirs, holding perfectly still.

Finally, the wind finished its playful tease against her patience and obeyed, conspiring with the trees to rattle and disguise her final step as she pounced. She wrapped her ankle around his, locking it in place, grabbed a fistful of bright blond hair and pushed his head forward, pressing the general’s throat into her stick.

He gasped and tensed again, and she gleefully imagined the look of shock striking those beautiful, blue-green eyes. If this were real, he’d be dead already. Though it didn’t take long for him to catch up to her game.

She heard him grin, “Hello Carmin.”

With a jingling laugh, she released him and spun around the area. “I got you! I got you!” She chimed between giggles.

“Yes, yes you did.” He agreed calmly, watching her parade around him in her accomplishment. He grabbed her wrist to halt her march, her favorite smile on his face. “You weren’t there at the meeting.”

“I was here.”

He arched an eyebrow, “Yes I’m aware-”

“No you weren’t. I wouldn’t have gotten you if you knew.”

“No,” he responded quickly, “I didn’t. But I have since gathered more information to therefore conclude that in your absence at the meeting, you were here instead.”

“Yeah, that’s what I said.” Carmin chirped.

He sighed. “Technically yes, you did.” He held her face in his gloved hands to still her constant movement between their quips. “Why weren’t you there?”

“Because you all say the same thing over and over again anyway. Besides, do I really need to be there? Haven’t you”–she put her hands on her hips and mocked how a fancy person would talk–“gathered more information to therefore conclude that I know what I’m doing?” She dropped the act and held her hands out to his face, “I got you. I’ll get them too, no problem.” He tensed at her frozen touch, sucking in a sharp breath and quickly holding her hands to get them off his bare skin. She giggled and continued before he could speak, “Besides, you attended for me. Is there anything important I missed?”

He stared at her for a moment before responding, “No. It was much the same as every other one. And… if there is anyone who can do this without fault, it would be you.”

She pressed closer and looked up into those eyes, “I told you.” She freed her hands from his grasp and returned them to his skin, this time stroking the back of his neck beneath his scarf and hair.

He flinched away from her touch, reaching back to remove her fingers again and she giggled at his expense. “Heavens above, you’re freezing.” He hissed.

She wrapped her arms around his neck, “And what are you going to do about it, General Kohl?” she teased.

His grin returned and those gorgeous eyes bore down into her. He shifted his hands to her hips and pressed them against his own. “Don’t tempt me.”

Carmin pounced at his lips in response and held him there in a heated kiss, melting into his form. She would never grow tired of his passion. Eventually he broke away and dragged her back to camp for the rest of the night.

Completely wrapped around her fingers, just like everyone else.
