Intel’s Internet of Things Seminar at ASU Flagship

On April 8, the ASU Chinese Flagship Center in conjunction with the School of International Letters and Cultures and ASU Confucius Institute hosted Intel Corporation’s seminar titled “The Future: Internet of Things”. The room was filled with ASU students, faculty from various university departments, and other community members that were interested in learning Intel’s new Internet of Things (IoT) initiative in China.

Mr. Steven Tu, Chief Architect of Platform Development in the Internet of Things Group and Senior Principal Engineer at Intel Corporation, led the conversation with the majority of his slides in Chinese, which fulfilled his promise of tying in a Chinese element and elicited a laugh from the audience. Mr. Tu’s discussion centered on the concepts of the IoT utilizing computers, connectivity, and big data to drive industry transformation. He cited a number of IoT applications that have already introduced and transformed various industries in China ranging from smart cities, auto parking management, energy conservation in buildings, and credit card security management. The market opportunities available through IoT are endless.
