Marion ("Cal") Faurla, aged 25, was arrested in Jacksonville, Florida, yesterday for the Toronto police on a charge of holding up the Bank of Toronto, Queen Street, at Kenilworth Avenue, on Feb. 8 last, and stealing $5,833.65.
In confirming the report of the arrest last night Acting Inspector of Detectives J. Chisholm said he had not received any details of the arrest beyond the fact the man was being held in custody. Extradition proceedings were at once commenced last night by the Toronto police and the Attorney-General's Department for the purpose of having the prisoner deported to Canada.
Alleged Accomplice Sentenced.
Stanley Lawrence, alleged accomplice of Fauria in the bank robbery was arrested several weeks ago in Windsor. A gun and part of the money was found under the pillow of a bed in a Windsor hotel. Lawrence was recently sentenced by Judge Denton to a term of seven years for his part in the robbery.
Fauria, was born in New Orleans, but had lived for many years in Detroit. He is alleged to have purchased an old car in Detroit. Without changing the Michigan State license plates he brought the car to Toronto, police say, and with Lawrence staged the bank robbery. With the arrest of Lawrence. in Windsor, police of that city discovered the abandoned car near Walkerville, it was identified as having been seen parked near the bank held-up about the time the robbers were in the bank.
Reward Offered.
A reward of $500 to be paid in Canadian currency was offered for the capture of Fauria, Whether or not this will be paid, police would not discuss last night, taking the stand the prisoner would have to be brought back here and convicted before a reward could be paid.
A despatch from Jacksonville says police there declare when Faurla was shown a circular sent out by Toronto police, he admitted his identity. They also said about $100 in Canadian currency was taken from the prisoner.
