So I made this study about how Gazerbeam's powers would hypothetically work, anatomically speaking. And I gave him special glasses because Jesus his life is fcking miserable.
Okay, so. Super summarized. We have four lobes on the brain. Rn we're focusing on the Occipital lobe, which (among other things) is in charge of processing the things we see and make them make sense.
The way our brains process vision is like a trail. It starts when the pupil perceives something, and it travels through the retina, the optical nerve and it gets to a part of our brain called Lateral Geniculate Nucleus. This is located in a bigger part of our brains called Thalamus, the Thalamus is going to redirect the information to the Occi lobe, to a part called Primary Visual Cortex. That's the part in charge of making sense of things, the very same part that allows you to read this, actually (among other things.)

Why do we care about this? Well, I thought that it would be really cool if every time Simon focused his eyes on something for enough time, he would concentrate and excite enough atoms to create photons (light particles) and by instance, involuntary shoot lasers by the concentration of excited atoms traveling from his primary vis. cortex all the way back to his retina. Like a mirror bouncing the light until it found it's exit though Simon's pupils. (Btw that's how lasers irl work lols)
Basically:
Sees thing for long enough —> Image goes to the brain —> Brain bounces light concentration —> Eyes shoot lasers
Of course his eyes would resent it. Badly.
Like it says there, I headcanon that every time he shoots, he blinds himself completely for at least a few seconds; imagine how fucked y'all's vision would be if you constantly flashbanged yourself your entire life. My man NEEDS his prescriptions.
But dw twin I thought about that too.
Since he's my favorite guy ever, I asked Enda to make him special glasses able to diffuse the photons and separating them enough to not make it visible to the normal eye.
Yk, exactly like prescripted shadded glasses you get at Costco but like, anti lasers. That way, minus the random shadow on his glasses, he would be able to have an average life. Yay :P
