How Long Does SILK Eye Surgery Take to Heal?
The good news is that SILK is designed to provide a quick recovery. While most people notice clearer vision within 24–48 hours, complete healing and vision stabilization happen gradually over the next few weeks to months.
In this guide, I'll explain what you can expect during each stage of recovery, along with some practical tips. I'll also share a little of my own experience after having SILK eye surgery at Shroff Eye Centre.
What Is the Healing Time After SILK Eye Surgery?
SILK Eye Surgery is a minimally invasive laser vision correction procedure that reshapes the cornea through a tiny incision, without creating a large corneal flap. Because the corneal surface is minimally disturbed, many patients experience a relatively comfortable recovery with less dryness compared to some other laser vision correction procedures.
Although every person's eyes heal differently, here's a general recovery timeline:
24–48 hours: Initial vision improvement
1 week: Most daily activities become comfortable
1 month: Vision continues to stabilize
1–3 months: Final healing and crisp vision for many patients.
I will explain you in detail:-
SILK Eye Surgery Recovery Timeline
Day 1: The First 24 Hours
Immediately after surgery, your vision may feel slightly blurry or hazy. This is completely normal.
Most surgeons recommend resting your eyes as much as possible on the first day and avoiding unnecessary screen time.
This is when many patients notice a significant improvement.
Vision usually becomes much clearer.
Eye discomfort reduces considerably.
Most people can comfortably move around without glasses.
Some people may still experience mild dryness or fluctuating vision, which generally improves with prescribed eye drops.
Computer work becomes more comfortable.
Most people can return to office work, depending on their surgeon's advice.
Vision continues improving each day.
Use prescribed eye drops exactly as instructed.
Wear sunglasses outdoors.
Attend your scheduled follow-up appointment.
By the second to fourth week:
Vision is much more stable.
Dryness usually continues to improve.
Most normal daily activities can be resumed, although swimming, contact sports, and eye makeup are often postponed until your surgeon confirms it's safe.
Complete healing doesn't happen overnight.
Vision becomes fully stable.
Night vision continues to improve.
Any temporary glare or halos generally reduce as healing progresses.
Your doctor will continue monitoring your recovery during follow-up visits.
My Experience at Shroff Eye Centre
I had my SILK eye surgery at Shroff Eye Centre, and one thing that stood out to me was Detailed eye check-up before surgery.
The team carefully checked whether I was actually a suitable candidate instead of simply recommending the procedure. On the day of surgery, the procedure itself was surprisingly quick, and although I was naturally a little nervous, the doctors and staff explained every step, which made me feel comfortable.
My vision wasn't instantly perfect the moment I got up from the laser. The first day was a little hazy, which I had been told to expect. By the next day, I could already notice a big improvement, and over the following week my vision became clearer. As someone who spends long hours working on detailed fashion designs, I was especially happy to get back to screen work with much less dependence on glasses. Following the eye drop schedule and aftercare instructions made recovery feel smooth.
Like any medical procedure, everyone's healing experience is different, but in my case the recovery was quicker than I had expected.

Use all prescribed eye drops on schedule.
