In the Belly of the Beast || Ezra & Dimitri
Slipping into the lift, Dimitri felt his chest tighten. It had only been about ten minutes since he first arrived to the location of his arena and he was already being prepped for launch. His whole body ached in anticipation and desperation. Part of him wanted to run—or just give up completely but he knew that wasn’t an option. Dimitri needed Ezra back and just like he told Malia the night before, he’d do whatever it took. Even if that meant killing another human—even if it meant dying himself. Taking in a sharp breath, Dimitri shut his eyes tight. He knew that Ezra was still alive but not having gotten the chance to see him before hand, he had no idea what to expect.
All the possibilities cycled through his head. What if this was just a ploy to get him into the arena? What if Ezra was already gone? No. He couldn’t allow himself to think like that, not when he was so close to getting him back. If he lost it now there was no telling what would happen. Dimitri needed to keep a level head even if that was easier said than done. “two seconds” the familiar automated voice rang out in the tube he was kept in and just like that he was being lifted into the air. Like last time, there was on one to see him off and no one to make sure he was okay, it was just him alone. Perhaps he truly was meant to die in the area after all.
Once at the top, his brown eyes scanned the arena critically. It was just like it had been the first time around. A large grassland surrounded by nothing but open fields, a bright blue sky hovered above him. Except there was something different about the arena. The usually placid watering hole seemed to vibrate as if there was something just beneath the surface, hanging above it was Ezra, held by some sort of metal contraption. “Ezra!” Dimitri screamed out as the countdown reached zero. Frantic eyes landed on the cornucopia just beyond the water. If he had any chance at getting Ezra back he needed to reach the cornucopia, he knew that for a fact.
Taking off, Dimitri bolted forward towards his soldier; his whole body felt like it was on fire as he breathed in the hot air. But he needed to get to him. Finally reaching the water, Dimitri looked up at him “I’m going—“ he started only to be cut off by a low rumbling just beneath them and the rapid swirling of the naturally quite water. Three large alligators ripped out of the pool, hissing at him. Before they had a chance to lunge, Dimitri took off once more, his leg protesting at the sudden movement. Dimitri needed to reach the cornucopia or this would have all been for nothing.
