spoilers under the cut, here i go building on my meta about darlene and mr. robot:

first things first: it’s definitely mr. robot’s vernacular that gives him away. darlene thought she was speaking to elliot right up until mr. robot called her “sweetheart.” in past episodes, we see that darlene isn’t always aware that she’s speaking to mr. robot because, while they definitely argue and disagree a lot more than darlene and elliot do, i think mr. robot and elliot are similar enough that darlene doesn’t always pick up on who is fronting.

i’ve talked about darlene and her tendency to antagonize mr. robot in the sense that she tends to view him as an antagonist. however after this episode, i believe darlene is going to start accepting that mr. robot is not, in fact, a bad guy. he didn’t give darlene the specifics of why he exists—he’s leaving that for elliot when he’s ready. darlene seems to accept though that mr. robot comes out because elliot needs him to come out. fine. she’s okay with that. she even willingly worked with him this episode.

i don’t believe darlene will fully accept mr. robot until elliot reveals the sexual abuse that was happening. i think she’s willing to work with him and understands that he exists to protect elliot. from what, she doesn’t know yet, but at least that understanding is there.
