So I'm genuinely curious what y'all are feeling about this. At first I was genuinely not bothered by George Russell throwing his headrest after the dnf. It was a pure and understandable moment of utter frustration. It was what could have been a deciding moment in the championship (thought it could be argued that the championship is a season not a race and he needs to buck up -still in the moment...) His system was flooded with hormones particularly high levels of adrenaline. You can't always control how that feels. I'm not one to fully take to heart what drivers say over the radio for that very reason. So, other than being very amused at the Red Bull 'Borderline something something', I just didn't pay it much attention other than to say 'Not great, but understandable.' I didn't have any thoughts on the suspended fine or really any of it other than the lols. Now I'm not sure. First, I've heard quite a few people explain the danger that this actually posed. Even if unlikely, it could have been swept onto the track where cars were still driving. Yellow flag speeds are still damn fast and if the wind picked it up and blew it on the track there could have been an accident. Again unlikely, but not impossible. Second, when you compare the penalty to ones Max has gotten it starts to sour in your stomach. Max got large fines and community service for swearing. For swearing! No one was going to crash because he said fuck. Unless you count crashing out. Want something more on track, I'm more than happy to go back to my 2024 obsession - Max's Qatar grid place penalty. George fans I suppose will argue that Qatar was much bigger safety issue and race ruining as well. Though we know he could see Max and Alonso were moving slower and his race engineer even told him they were. Everyone was safe. So yeah, if you take George's incident in Montreal out of its own personal vacuum I find myself wondering if there is more to this?? Thoughts? I'm fully on the fence here and would love any insights into this ultimately trivial matter : ) I just like to do some F1 yapping.
