First post back in however long and I want to talk about a lens I picked up just before the end of last year!
This is the Tamron 35mm f1.8! It’s not a newly released lens, it’s actually not even meant for the GFX system but that’s not stopping this beast! When adapted it fully covers the GFX system sensor, meaning this lens is actually closer to a 28mm FF equivalent. The lens handles this demanding sensor very well, overall IQ is brilliant! Center and corner sharpness is really good, almost as if this lens was made for this system!
I was never one for 28mm until i tried this lens, and now this focal length has become my go to! I love the overall field of view, it really helps me capture the images that I WANT to capture!
I don’t usually shoot this lens wide open but when I do this lens delivers!! F1.8 on this system gives you out of focus backgrounds closer to something like a f1.4. So this combined with the bigger sensor, you get a pretty unique look. IMO this lens have no problem achieving that “medium format” look.
Len’s built in Vibration Reduction (VR) has no problem working with the bigger sensor, which definitely comes in handy for low light photographs.
I think the biggest issue with this lens is AF speed, granted I’m shoot this on the notoriously slow GFX50R but it’s definitely slower than other lenses I’ve used on this system. I don’t think it’s a huge problem for still life/ landscapes but don’t expect to shoot weddings with this combo. I will say, this lens has no problems with accuracy! Most of my photos will always be in focus, unlike my other lenses, I’m looking at you Sigma 50mm Art.
Anyways, this is as many photos as i can post, so I’ll probably make a couple additional posts show casing more photos I’ve taken with this combo sometime in the future!
I most definitely recommend this lens to anyone who is 1) already in this system & 2) adapting lenses! I understand that this combo is not for everyone, but if you’re into experimenting and slowing down with you work AND you already own a GFX or are looking to get into this system for adapting then this is an unbeatable combo!
