don’t blame me | jayvie f2f
Some feelings, Evie had deduced, were better off buried. She never thought that burying feelings was something she’d advocate, but after King’s Day happened and she realized that her feelings for her two friends who, notably and irrefutably, were the most perfect couple without her were more than platonic, she never wanted to feel again. It was embarrassing and cruel, to like both her best friend and the boy that her best friend had fallen for; it was also confusing, and Evie wanted more than anything to wish the feelings away, which was impossible. What she could do instead, though, was drink.
Drinking with Jay had become something of a habit lately, and not a bad one. It was good to have a friend that she could forget the bad with, especially since she felt it did him as much good as it did her. Despite all her efforts and his, though, and all the alcohol, the Westerly Festival was proving hard to enjoy. Maybe it was because the hurt feelings were fresh or because the objects of affection were having a great time without her, but it seemed like Evie couldn’t work hard enough to forget them. “Is it just me, or do events make everything you’re trying to repress a billion times stronger?” she mumbled to Jay, taking a drink from her cup and looking over at Mal and Ben. She bit her lip and looked down, then back up at her neutral friend, her safe friend, her friend that knew her awful secret and still would never judge her.
