How to step out of a brand new jet at under 200 ft and have a laugh about it afterwards...😳 The date was March 20th, 1968, and this brand-new F-4J - just off the assembly line - was taking off on a test flight when this stunning event unfolded. Fortunately, both C. D. "Pete" Pilcher (Production Test Pilot) and Harvey A. Begay (Radar Observer) ejected safely. I just love how they casually walk over to the ejection seat on the runway whilst having a little chuckle “well there’s your problem!”. Turns out the problem was FOD in the cockpit. How every P2V Neptune should be displayed at an air show. 🤙😎 This JATO display took place in 1950 at the Naval Air Station Grosse Ile (NASGI) Airshow. Not only did NASGI have quite the cool Runway and Apron layout, during World War II NASGI was one of the largest primary flight training stations for Naval aviators, and RAF pilots.
