For what felt like the millionth time, Angel adjusted the hem of the dress she had decided to wear for her art show. She was standing next to her display, biting the inside of her cheek as people walked by. Some stopped and asked her questions about her pieces, which made her even more nervous, but the longer she stood there, the more at ease she became. As someone walked over and stood before her display, she watched them for a moment before moving to stand next to them. “So what do you think?”
Nothing drew Jack like a crowd of people having fun. It was harder to be stealthy now that people could actually see him, but he'd managed to start a snow-cone throwing fight among a small crowd of children at the carnival. He was sitting on a picnic table on the edges of everything, watching the chaos and chuckling at his handiwork. "Honestly, can you think of a better use for snow cones?"
Molly had volunteered to work in the First Aid tent with some of the other nursing students, but she hadn't counted on it being so boring. That was a good thing, of course--nobody needing medical attention at the carnival probably made it a success--but other than passing out a few Band-Aids, she'd mostly been texting on her phone and daydreaming about iced coffee. The heat in the tent was making her sleepy, and she stifled a yawn as someone stepped inside. "Hi. Can I help you with something?"
After getting her GED Shock had started thinking seriously about applying to the university, so when the carnival was announced she took the opportunity to do so research. It started by just talking to some of the students working the various booths and games, nothing obvious just the occasional “what’s your major?” or “how much for a semester?” and “what do you need to get in?” The trouble was that Shock was a bit worried that she wouldn’t be accepted for only having a GED and not an actual diploma. It wasn’t like she could apply to other colleges either. Soon, however, Shock found herself at the pie throwing booth which gave her an opportunity.
She paid her fare and readied her arm. “I’ve got some questions for you.” Shock called over to the professor with a pie in hand. “What’s the average workload per student? Where can I find information on the types of degrees you offer? And how does one apply for the scholarship? Answer or I will buy all the pies and my aim is pretty good!”
Dorothy had never been to a carnival, but she'd read about them in books. She was a little disappointed to find out that this one didn't seem to have any magic in it at all, but she still wanted to try everything. She gave the attendant her tickets for the Ferris Wheel and shook her head when they asked who she was riding with. "I can ride by myself." Apparently, they disagreed on that, and Dorothy glared murder at them while they shouted for any other single riders. She imagined them choking on their gum. She imagined them getting hit by a mail truck. She imagined a piano falling on their head. The attendant seemed immune to all of it.

“Oh the sea is so full of a number of fish, If a fellow is patient, he might get his wish! And that’s why I think That I’m not such a fool When I sit here and fish In McElligot’s Pool!” Belle finished, closing the book and smiling at the kids as they clapped. “Thank you for listening. This and many other summer-time books are available at the library. If anyone has any questions or require some suggestions, I’ll be here for about ten minutes. There will be another reading in an hour for anyone interested.”
