The directions on the cloth read:
“Sew up the sides and head and stuff cotton, then sew on the oval piece. Stuff flat at the bottom so the cat can stand up.”

Fabric Friday: Heather Ross’s Mendocino (out of print)
I promise it won’t always be out of print fabrics, there are just a couple of fabrics that REALLY caught my eye when I first started and I wanted to make sure I covered those. And OH BOY was Mendocino one of them.
I started seeing small things made out of Heather Ross’s Mendocino line when the FIRST line came out (the orange/brown version here) back in 2008. It was my first time really seeing modern designer fabric and I was SMITTEN. I wasn’t quite quilting yet, but it definitely sparked my interest. Fast forward to several years later:
I am not aware of how often this happens, I am still a bit murky on the fabric industries ins and outs, but in 2016 they re-released Mendocino in new colors, and it was SO GOOD y’all! So these purple/watermelon/etc. examples are all of the SECOND line of Mendocino (sorry if topless mermaids are a no-no). In my opinion, it’s still one of my favorite lines and I’ve seen a lot of beautiful creations with it.
As for this being “out of print” - you can find a good bit of the second line around if you want some, on etsy and elsewheres. I personally have bought some and I have no idea when I’ll finally be able to cut into it.

Fabric Friday this week is featuring the Moonshine line from Tula Pink, with a specific focus on the Sprout design in the three colorways. This one is out of print (came out in 2014), but still findable. In fact, I got a wallet custom made from the one below:
As modern fabric designers go, Tula Pink is a pretty big name. Her Moonshine line features this Sprout design in color ways (from top to bottom) Blush, Jam, and Midnight. While all of the designs for this are pretty outstanding, I also really love the Swarm design:

It's Fabric Friday!
I kind of hate the shower curtain but it cost like $50 in materials and took over two hours to iron and fold so I'm not making a new one.
The other two pieces are much smaller, about 20x20 inches. I have no plans for them as of yet but they'll probably end up in a quilt.

This is Blood Moon Mineral from Birch Organic’s Tall Tale Collection - I just love the colors on this so much. Here’s a cat head block I’ve started with it:
I believe it’s out of print, but it can still be found around the internet. I feel like a lot of what makes a modern quilt “modern” is the fabric choices.
Here are some new fabrics I’ve recently added to my collection!
I’ve mentioned it on wordpress, but i’ve sort of been in this sewing rut where i’m not very motivated or excited about my projects. This happens to me a couple times a year and it’s really frustrating. But I finally feel some enthusiasm towards sewing again and I have some fun things planned for these materials!
The top picture is satin faced chiffon and embroidered lace. These will be paired with taffeta and jacquard to make up an 1880′s evening dress. The middle fabrics are a floral satin (that was a dollar a yard) and silk dupioni, which will hopefully become an 18th century court gown. The final photo is a silk shantung with velvet flocking which will be paired with black micro velvet.
I also got some yellow taffeta for an1890′s dress, and a striped taffeta for another 18th century dress. And both of those will be based on dresses i’ve tried (and failed) to make before!
