Let’s All Stop Crucifying Ourselves!

So I asked my dear, dear brother (who spent 10 years of his sweet life behind bars for being a big coke dealer in the 90's in the good, old Midwestern state of Iowa) how he was doing? He replied "I'm good, I'm very good when I remember how good my life is and stop crucifying myself." Truer words were never spoken. How DO we stop crucifying ourselves for the sins of our Mothers and Fathers in us? If anyone has any answers PLEASE share!
