Mister F.T.P.,
I’m afraid you’ve ignited my curiosity. What does the T stand for? Tall? Thoughtful? Tenacious? Truthful enough descriptors, but none really seem like fitting names. As for our friends at the ball, I suspect it was the night before that offered them a simple solution. It can be hard to think of a truly inspiring plan in the wake of a shock to the system. I’m rather grateful. If we’re honest, even I needed a laugh, though mine had more to do with the unapologetic glee on Sturgis’ face than the event itself. It does in some ways, & not in others -- it’s more down to the teachers to ferret out the perpetrators, & after that, there’s little we can do. I’ve done a lot more related to the battle than the ball. Not everyone saw the fallout, but those who did were shaken. I find third year girls crying in the loo, first year boys curled up in the library at barely 5am, waking up with vaguely threatening dreams in the night. The atmosphere is shifting.
I’ve been rambling. If I could burn this parchment & start again, I would, but I fear it would be much of the same. There are too many thoughts in my head. Maybe I was waiting for a Ravenclaw to listen. Or Enough of that. Classes are well enough. I’m anxious to duel -- dueling club’s due to meet soon. I think I’ve become an addict. What about you? Silly to ask, really, I’m sure. You have a sharp mind. I can see it sometimes in your eyes. Is that too straightforward? Letters are so much easier to put my thoughts into. Please tell me if I say anything... what’s the word. Untoward. ( I don’t know if Edgar told you, but we had rigorous tutoring as children. Even now I manage to sound like a stuffy governess when I write. Apologies. )
I would like that. To talk. But if the opportunity arises again, you weren’t a bad dance partner, either. Just so you’re aware.
- A.S.B.
P.S. It stands for Amelia Susan Bones. P.P.S. I thought I’d be clever & sign the same as you, but I don’t like the look of my initials as much as yours. The vowel throws it all off, really.
