-Releases a horde of angry hornets into Jareth's castle-
At first, there was a little sense of panic, with goblins running all around the castle. Soon, it became clear that they weren’t running away, they were charging at the hornets with wormwood in hand.
“Ah, wormwood. Quite the repellent, if I do say so myself~”
Okay, this might be bit of a long answer, so I apologise in advance.
Every time I’ve watched Labyrinth, I’ve noticed that Jareth is very hard to read. Like, how does he feel about all this? What does he actually think about Sarah? I wrote in a previous headcanon about this briefly, and watching it today makes sense.
Think about it. At the start of the movie, we see Jareth, as an owl, watching Sarah re-create the story. It’s likely that she performed the entire thing. This would mean he’d have a general idea of the tale, right? Flash forward to their first meeting. He appears in glitter a grand splendour and is truly intimidating. If anything, he’s playing the role of the wicked king. Like, what if he knows she’s an immature day-dreamer and plays to this?
(On a side note, I have a theory that a wish like that cannot be un-wished until the time is up or the runner succeeds. Because of this, Jareth tries to oppose the wisher. Think of it like the [somewhat-reluctant] final boss of a dungeon. Anyway, back to the topic on hand)
He never seems particularly stressed about what’s going on until she literally arrives at his doorstep. (Probably more to do with exhaustion but again, another story). If anything, he’s simply trying to stall and delay her as much as possible because it’s his job. Plus, we all know how much pride this fop has.
But Ash, you might say, what about the ballroom scene?
Good question. Refer back to the link I posted. Jim Henson calls it ‘Sarah’s Fantasy’. What if it was a dream? But even if it wasn’t, I can’t read Jareth’s expression. He’s observing. He’s clearly not smitten, nor does he seem excited to see her. Even when she pulls away at the end he just… Lets her go.
My final argument is the final scene between them. Again, it’s much more like a play. Once again, Jareth is dressed to be an intimidating figure. Even how he speaks, it’s how the evil king would speak. But the big thing for me? He lets her speak. Throughout the movie, he makes multiple attempts to stall her as long as possible but here? He lets her remember the forgotten line. It’s almost like he’s waiting for a fellow actor to remember their line more than trying to stop someone from defeating him.
Plus, I remember reading somewhere about how the events of Labyrinth help Sarah become a grounded, logical young woman rather than an immature child who is used to getting her own way. What if Jareth was helping her learn this lesson?
Anyway, I’ve went on far longer than I intended, but hopefully that might help back my belief, Anon! :D
((sorry, im a faerie nerd and if sarah had known about this stuff she'd have been much better off^^))
OoS: Pfft, it’s okay. It’s a really interesting topic, but I think the sudden appearance of them threw both myself and Jareth off. xD We are working on the last one you asked though!
M!A incubus for 3 days! This. Means that you must feed on ah sexual energy or its going to have some extreemly adverse effects. On the plus side your even more of a walking turn on now
Out of Spells: Yeaah, sorry anon. Gonna have to reject this one. I wrote in my rules that I’m not comfortable writing NSFW content, and I’m not going against that just because of this. Of course, Magic anons are always welcome but…. Just keep this in mind next time, okay?
Christian threw his arms around Jareth, then began to pepper kisses about his cheek and neck and settled in a hug "I've missed you. "
He wasn’t mad? While Jareth was very thankful for that, he was also frozen as he was bombarded with kisses and a hug. “I’ve missed you too, Christian…” he eventually answered.
"C-Christian…." Jareth replied in a relieved but somewhat nervous tone, tall form recoiled slightly, as though prepared for a backlash of some sort. Human time was hard to keep track of sometimes and the last thing he felt like was an argument…
