Hi! Could you explain what determines which faceoff circle is used after a play is blown dead? Like it's different faceoff circles for different scenarios right (goal scored, penalty called, equipment failure etc.)?

as a general rule faceoffs occur in the dot closest to the stoppage of play. This is for like, the puck leaving the ice, or when goalies make saves. If a penalty occurs and that’s what stops the play, then the faceoff is taken in that teams defensive zone on the side of the ice the penalty occured. If a goal is scored it will always take place in the centre ice dot, this is also where the opening faceoffs to each period including overtime take place. but as for the other ones the general rule is where whatever happened took place and which one is it closest to.
