“What is your ideal “next-step” after you are finished your program?”
“Being in the creative industries makes me want to try a bunch of new things. After my program, I would love to go on and find new opportunities within a specific creative industry such as journalism, music or film.”
“Was there a moment when you knew what your dream occupation would be? Describe that moment.”
“Three years ago I changed my academic and professional trajectory from youth psychology and counselling to creative media studies, and have loved my field of study ever since.”
“What do you do when you experience a setback in your academic and/or career growth?”
“I try and identify the reason for this setback (what caused it and why) and make a mental note of this. This way, next time I encounter a similar setback I know what steps to take in order to overcome it.”
“If you could job shadow anyone in the world for 1 day, who would you choose and why?”
“I would choose Nadja Bellan-White, the senior partner and managing director of Ogilvy and Mather, because I would like to know how to manage the demands of such a job in advertising with the demands of being a woman.”
“In terms of job search, is there an area where you wish you could receive more support?”
“I’m currently working full-time in management at a retail store at the Eaton Centre. I’d like to explore my options beyond store-level and see where this program can take me. I’d also like some support in terms of starting up and building my portfolio and online networks (LinkedIn, personal website, etc...)
“In your opinion, what’s your greatest strength or skill?”
“My greatest strength is the ability to effectively sort out my time and organize myself to complete tasks. There is no point in stressing over projects if you start early, am I right?”
“How do you stay up-to-date with trends in your field of study?”
“Formally? I’d say researching over the web - everything from Vogue to social media. For example, Instagram and lookbooks. In my personal life or style, definitely exploring different areas of the city. I’m a big believer in the upward flow theory. Everything comes from the streets.”
“Name one hobby that you have. How did you get involved in this?”
“I like to try new things. I have never found one single thing that I enjoy enough to focus all of my energy on. So instead, my hobby is trying new things. My favourite way to go about it is by taking time off from school, life, and work to travel.”
