The party lasted until the early morning. Ieyasu, Mitsunari, and Yukimura fell asleep in the living room. Despite having so many people in the house, it feels comfortable and this is the most fun I’ve had in a very long time. I pulled spare blankets from the closet and draped them gently over the sleepers. Those still awake congregated in the kitchen over coffee. Murmurs floated from the group, softly enough I couldn’t make out what they were talking about. I duck around Masamune and wrap him in a hug.
“Thanks for the amazing party, Masamune. I don’t think I’ll ever forget it and I’m grateful, for everything.”
“It was our pleasure, lass. Thank you for having us. I’m sorry a few of them fell asleep.”
I shake my head. “No worries. They can leave in the morning or whenever they wake up. It’s fine.”
Masamune tousles my hair. “Not afraid to sleep with demons in your house?” “Those three?”
I shake my head. “Not at all. I might have second thoughts if it were you, Nobunaga and Shingen though.” “
What?” He dramatically clasps his hands over his heart. “You’re worried about me but not Yoshi? You wound me!”
“Whatever.” I playfully shove him and move to load the dishwasher.
“At any rate, it was an amazing party. I had a blast. I’ll miss you all, even the ones I just met today.”
“Oh? Are you going somewhere, princess?” Mitsuhide asks innocently over his tea.
When I turn around, they are all staring at me with emotions ranging from boredom to active interest. For the first time since meeting them, I feel a hint of apprehension.
“I um, assumed, that, well… I assumed this was the end of it. I mean, I don’t even know why you guys are here.”
“We’re here princess because you opened a gate,” Masamune answered.
“Ok. so what am I supposed to do?”
“That my dear,” Nobunaga cut in, “is entirely up to you.”
