also today’s fact. somewhat on a similar note to the previous one although u may know this already. there is no actual evidence that iron maidens had ever been used as torture devices. most likely no one has ever been executed in one. also, although believed to be used during the Middle Ages, the oldest iron maidens we’ve found were actually from the 19th century. it could very much be a product of this fascination w the macabre ppl used to have back then
however there is evidence of use of a different device that would work similarly although on a smaller scale – the Spanish boot. also made out of iron it would encapsulate a person’s shin and then crush it in between the spikes installed there. there’s another Spanish torture device I learned abt but atm I can’t rmr what it was :(
