Third P.O.V
Though it’s pitch black outside and possible doom lurks around every corner, Uriah feels comfortable running side by side with his brothers and sisters. The strength of Dauntless frightens any factionless creep looking to pick a fight. Thankfully the streets are clean tonight. Only the few slip by with their eyes cast down, not wanting to draw any attention towards them. His eyes scan the factionless people, looking but not seeing until his gaze fell on a woman who looked to be of his age. Her eyes were planted on him, back straight like a razor blade. She emitted a sort of confidence that didn’t belong to the factionless person. Uriah continued to watch her with curious eyes, longing to uncover her mystery. But just as he stepped out of the group, she seemed to vanish like a ghost in the night. That was the first and last time he saw her.. Until now..
Gunshots echoed throughout the city as Uriah slipped away from the crowd, following a group of Divergent members he’d only met a few months prior. The alley is cold, cast aside from the sun rays. The gun in his hand was cold despite the sweat that dripped down his arms. The young man couldn’t believe how much had changed in his life. He wondered if things would ever go back to the way they were? But as he looked upon the frighten people, factionless or not, he knew better than to ever allow himself to go return to that life. Uriah huddles close to Tris and Tobias, watching the horrors unfold before them. They couldn’t stay in the city but they also couldn’t leave without a clear sign of escape. The boots of the Dauntless soldiers slammed down against the concrete like a loud bang of the bullets they shot at civilians.
Uriah watched closely as the middle soldier turned her head towards him, defiant of the others before winking at the young man. It was the same girl he’d seen a few months prior. What was she doing? He thought to himself before an answer was quick to show itself. Suddenly she pulls out what looks to be an eighteen-inch baton. With a simple click of a button, it courses to life. Bright white tendrils of electricity bounce up and down the terrifying weapon. She smirks once more at Uriah before smacking each of the fifteen Dauntless soldiers in the neck. They jerk and shake, jolting in pain before collapsing to the ground. Quickly the young woman scans her surroundings before taking Tobias in a quick and surprising embrace.
“Good to see you, Tobias. I can get you all out of the city but we have to hurry.” Her bright eyes stagger on Uriah and he can’t help but drift toward her. “Names Uriah and you are?” He says, semi-confidently. “(Y/n). It’s nice to meet you, handsome. Let’s get going now before all we have are brief introductions.” He’s on her tail, fascinated by the woman who’s taken up his mind for months. Now he understands. She’s divergent, different from the rest but just like him. They slip in and out of the alleyways before finally reaching the end of the city. Only one more block. Uriah thinks with relief before a loud series of gunshots ring out near them, striking the side of the wall. Before he can even register his own thought process, his body moves.
Uriah grabs (Y/n)’s hand, pulling her away and slamming her body against the wall while he pressed himself against her, shielding her frame from the bullets that slip by. One catches his shoulder but he doesn’t take notice to the pain, too focused on the adrenaline coursing through his veins as he cradled her head. Tobias and Ethan shoot at the Dauntless dummies, cringing when they drop like flies. The sound quickly ceases and all any of them can hear are the sounds of their ragged breaths. (Y/n) flushes pink at how close the handsome man is to her, his warm breath washing down on her neck. When he pulls away, it is not far. Uriah scans her frame to make sure she wasn’t harmed in the attack. “Aren’t you gonna ask me on a date first?” (Y/n) says attempting to subdue the heat in her cheeks.
He chuckles lowly, eliciting chills across her skin before hissing pain. She slips her head until his arm pit, allowing him to lean on her. “How ‘bout we get this bullet out my shoulder first? Besides, you owe me dinner.” Uriah says, jokingly. (Y/n)’s heart flutters when she looks at the handsome hero, blushing all the while as they make their escape. Tobias looks at the young love, smirking softly to himself. Even in times of great conflict, things like romance never cease to flourish.
