Relocation trends: Contributing factors to domestic transfers
Relying on consumers’ or homeowners’ perspectives, home moving surveys from various sectors reveal significant factors affecting relocation. Basically counted as mobility rate, the latest surveys noted that fewer Americans have changed homes in the past few years. With this noteworthy low rate, however, comes different reasons that led the few who moved to change residences.

Mobility rate has declined from about 15 percent at the beginning of the decade to about 12 percent counted toward the end of 2013. In addition, movements between countries projected lower numbers as local transfers. The cycle of industrial and real estate boom, recession, and recovery resulted to changes in considerations for moving. For instance, the need to own a home rather than rent space was seen to increase during the boom period, whereas more residents have opted for cheaper dwellings during the recession.

Though more people opted to move due to cheaper rather than better housing, being offered a new job indicated higher significance and topped the reasons for domestic transfers. Survey results also revealed that people generally moved toward countries or in-country locations with lower population, lower housing costs, and lower unemployment. Florida and Texas are among the top states where most consumers moved into.

For 2015, the trends will continue to thrive with the following observations:
1. Mover availability will be tight in spring and summer months.
2. Major urban areas are still targets for relocations.
3. Interstate moves will expand to smaller cities.
4. Home sizes will remain unchanged; and surprisingly.
5. Threats due to mover scams will still persist, albeit more controlled.
