I kind of want to do another ramble-y essay post because I haven't done one in a while and they help me get into a fanfic writing mood because it's "writing" but not Writing...

I'm open to thoughts or ideas!

One idea that I started in drafts was times where Yumi lets herself swoon over Ulrich when he's not looking *because* he's not looking but I don't know that I enough screenshots for that one...

Another thought would be just making more time for liveblogging again because I haven't been watching any tv recently with work being busy.

I could also do Fading Blue questions if there's any interest there.

I don't really have a point here lol Just putting thoughts out there in case other people also have thoughts!

Fading Blue fanfic ramble: Ulumi relationship and privacy

This was a fun question from @bond-james-superior-spy that I could talk about forever but limited myself to one post lol I'll take it in pieces, but here's the whole question!

"I'd be really interested to hear about how they each perceive privacy and how that's incorporated into their relationship! Like, Ulrich doesn't really like/want Yumi knowing all the details, but Yumi has to cause it's her job (with some restraint). But Ulrich is at the same time gets information about Yumi as a person in scraps and the occasional lyoko relationship curveball."

I knooowwww! This part is so dear to my heart because even in the show, he's a private guy. I want to be clear that in FB, he does LOVE being a professional athlete. He loves the work and the fans and everything. I think he sees that as separate from himself though, if that makes sense?

Like, his body isn't his because it belongs to the team, his life isn't his because all his time goes to soccer, his mind isn't his because he only thinks about soccer.

Practicing outside or watching the park below his apartment is him though! His charity work or writing in his diary is him. And those are things that he does not want the public to know.

SO when Yumi is like, yeah, I went into your room and looked through your things and checked on your finances, he's like WHOA hold up That stuff is Me™️ and no one else has access to that.

I've tried to show that even his friends (William, Theo, etc.) don't get to see these sides of him. Rosa is the only exception here. Which makes it interesting that Yumi comes in with a scalpel and slices through specific areas of his boundaries whether he likes it or not. Honestly, I think it's kind of good for him to actually be challenged to open up a little bit hahah

Because it's also clear that he wants to! He does it a lot more casually with Odd, and then Aelita and Jeremie, so we know he can! He just feels shy about Yumi doing it for some reason....

but Yumi has to cause it's her job (with some restraint).

It was so kind of you to say she has restraint because she really does not 😂 Especially at first! The only time I can think of that she "respects privacy" is when she's telling Brynja off for doing the exact same thing she did herself hahaha That was mostly just a jealousy thing.

So much of her job is "knowing things." She doesn't see clients as friends, so she doesn't understand why it would bother Ulrich that she wants to know every detail about him and his life.

This is an area where she is learning and growing though! Especially because Ulrich is probably the first person to tell her to back off.

I really liked the short scene after they talk to Theo for this reason. Ulrich basically said, "You don't have to know everything about everyone. You're still valuable to me as a normal person who doesn't have all the answers." The downside, of course, is that Yumi heard, "You did a bad job. Work harder and stay under the radar."

Maybe they'll figure it out eventually though!

But Ulrich is at the same time gets information about Yumi as a person in scraps and the occasional lyoko relationship curveball.

This is one of my other favorite things! Ulrich is honestly such an angel because Yumi knows SO MUCH about him, and he's been really patient about pressing her for the same info.

On one hand, he didn't really care at first, so he never bothered asking at the start. Yumi also didn't think her own stuff mattered, so she never shared.

BUT now that he's actually interested, I do think it's sweet of him not to force her to open up in return.

We'll get more Yumi backstory as the story goes along! There's some more Lyoko stuff too. (A big one will come out next chapter!)

I think we'll have 10ish more chapters? I won't spoil the info we'll get, but I will give a teaser that we'll meet Hiroki in chapter 15 or 16! He'll have some opinions on Yumi to share of course hahaah
