SSIEGE FADING SUMMER
I’ll try to pay more attention next year
Sharon and I sat on the porch one recent evening, watching the sun crawling toward bed a little earlier than it had the night before, which was earlier yet than the night before that.
Two full months past the summer solstice, as Labor Day closes in, the difference is obvious.
I said, “Can you believe summer is nearly gone?”
“Yeah,” she replied, “I’ve been watching it all along.”
Well, so have I and I still get the feeling that it slipped away while I wasn’t watching.
We have this same conversation every year. I guess Sharon is better than I am at being present in the moment. I’ll have to work on that.
“The best of the summer gone, and the new fall not yet born”
Sylvia Plath
‘... with autumn closin’ in ...’
The first hint of summer’s demise comes from the light - not just the lack of it, but the quality, Daylight these days reminds me of a failing flashlight, its beam slowly growing dimmer as the batteries give out.
On the positive side, I can now sleep until 6 a.m. and still be on the water in time to call the sun a slacker as as it rises begrudgingly from the lake.
The bad news comes on the other end. Six weeks ago I could keep my lines in the water until 10 p.m. and still cruise into the harbor under watery light. Now, the limit is around 9 p.m. These days the curtain falls both earlier and faster.

Current Project: Fading Summer (Original Fiction)
His dad calls him an asshole when the cops are gone, tells him that he’s never going to amount to anything if he doesn’t stop screwing around. Well, fuck that, Skyler thinks as he pulls off his black hoodie gingerly and tosses it over the back of the desk chair in his room. He stops and admires his first tattoo in the mirror, the real reason him and his buddies went out tonight. It wasn’t his fault Dustin thought it would be funny to egg the car of this guy he hates from school. Definitely not his fault when that kid’s dad turned out to be home and chased them down the street with a baseball bat. Skyler runs his fingers over the still sensitive skin of his upper arm, wincing at the pain and knowing his mom is going to fucking kill him when she sees this. Doesn’t matter to him though. Two more years and he’s gone. Away from his overbearing mother and barely there father. Onto bigger and better things in a whole new city. He can’t fucking wait.

ARC Readers Needed!
Hey guys!
So as most of you know, I’m currently smack dab in the middle of writing my first novel! I see the end in sight and want to get a few ducks lined up in a row before it’s finished. That’s where you come in!
I’m looking for a few people interested in receiving an ARC (Advanced Reader’s Copy) of my book once it’s finished. I’m looking at a spring 2017 release date so I’m hoping to get the book finished and ready to read by December. If you are interested in reading my debut novel, which you can read about HERE, and giving me an honest review on Amazon once the book is published, please send me an ask HERE with your name & email address. I will put you on the list of ARC readers and let you know when it’s ready!
