I’m not sure if it’s a trope, but I also super hate OT3 as the solution to “rival” pairings. A different relationship isn’t a solution.

Character X gets amnesia and/or turned kinda evil, has to fight Character Y who they are either close friends or love interests with. Look, I’m not saying the third Bleach movie was quality cinema, I’m just saying it was written specifically for me.
