Medicine by Kim Leoni
Bewitching her had only been a means to pass the time, to kill the eternal boredom and loneliness he finds himself in. Such lovely crimson hair, porcelain skin that beckoned to him with its velvet softness, like a rose to be plucked. She had come so easily, almost willingly, as if she is grateful for the escape, however brief it was.
Or as it had been intended. Nearly daily she returns for more of his stories and magick, enticing him down from the branches with small trinkets, savory foods, a lovely song, then eventually sweet touches and sweeter sounds.
Sinister claws ghost over flesh maliciously blemished by another, and soft lips work to replace the terrible memories, all the while honeyed eyes and a tender smile feed a beast deep inside that had starved for affection.
In the end they both find what they had been searching for that first day... a cure for the malady that is life.
