She was in this part of Faerie for two reasons. One, because the mountain springs were naturally healing, and she had to recover from the small wounds she’d sustained when fighting off a troll. And two, because she had been minding her own business, thank you very much, when her caravan to the nearest city had been overturned by said troll and Polly had drawn it away into the forest before becoming almost lost herself.

There was a subconscious pull, like a string around her heart, guiding her towards the capital, so she knew vaguely in which direction to travel, but it meant nothing when she had no clue how far away that might be. The only solace was the fact that whatever drew the nightly beasts in kept them a good distance away, and Polly could walk through the forest unhurt, no matter how dark it became.

The skip in her step was more than a little forced, and she shook in both fear and a drop in temperature, but she pushed onward, limping with her bad leg, and searching first for a spring before making way for the Court.
