I challenge you to write a summary of or pitch retold :)

Retold Summary

OKAY this is for my one fan (day) cause i need a summary anyway. and even if nobody but me cares about this au, I'll probably start posting about it just to get all my thoughts down 

ANYWAY. here’s my intro to retold under the readmore!! (basically up to the Wall portion, which in my notes is ‘chapter’ or ‘section' two)

PART 1: THE BEGINNING

Everything begins when Henry wakes up after [REDACTED INCIDENT] as the leader of the Toppats, looking out from the airship. This should be impossible- he hasn't lived a Toppat 4 Life ending first. How has he ended up here?

He learns very quickly by talking to Reginald that, impossibly, Henry doesn't remember what happened before in this timeline. It's like he appeared in a completely new world.

VERY LONG story short, Henry now has to navigate being the leader of the Toppats while researching his own mysterious past (and hiding fact he is a completely different person) AND while looking for his missing partners, Charles and Ellie. 

What little Henry learns before the plot picks up is that he was the ringleader of a coup against Terrence, and with the help of Reginald and RHM, he overthrew Terrence. However, Terrence and his remnants are on the rise once again. 

Hard cut to Ellie Rose, who is the second in command to Dmitri Petrov at the Wall! Dmitri views her as a daughter and a success, having ‘reformed’ her from her criminal ways. Grigori, the third in command, despises her for taking Dmitri’s attention and affection.

Ellie, meanwhile, despises her position and Dmitri. She begins to plan a riot to release the Wall’s prisoners. As a powerful psychic, how hard can it be? She begins subtly spreading word of a riot.

Hard cut to Rupert! Rupert is having an absolutely miserable time in the government. His best friend, Charles Calvin, is presumed dead after seemingly losing his mind, crashing his helicopter into the headquarters of a new government ally, the tech company the Saturn Initiative, and pursuing the SI’s CEO with a fire hatchet. The CEO, Allister Jonas, managed to flee and push Charles off of the nearby cliff, sending him to his seeming death on the rocks below.

Rupert is struggling with the knowledge his best friend is dead, and also that he died a traitor. How is he supposed to grieve someone who betrayed them so utterly, and for no discernible reason? Not having a body to confirm Charles’s death doesn't make things any easier.

He's out with a new squadron who didn't know Charles- made of Victoria Grit, Amelia Esteban, and the Bukowski twins- in the hopes that maybe he can recover from this grief and shock. 

In between here Henry learns more info, adjusts more to his new life, and continues searching for his missing partners. He is crushed and horrified when he comes across a recent report stolen from the government that proclaims one Charles Calvin, helicopter pilot, is classified as dead…

Hard cut to Charles! He is, surprisingly, not dead. Dr. V found him floating, his left side destroyed but still somehow alive, and rebuilt him. He's got a metal arm, back, and wings, and he is hellbent on destroying the organization that he tried to take out once before: the Saturn Initiative.

According to him, the SI is masquerading as a tech company focused on innovating new weapons and technology for the government using its funding and research. However, Charles did some digging, and he found the truth: the SI has a dangerous history of supplying powerful weapons to anyone who pays the highest, murdering competitors, and overtaking those they work with. It seems like the government- and its classified tech- is next on its list.

Charles brought these concerns to Galeforce, and was strangely brushed off despite his evidence. After continual dismissal and denial from both Galeforce and Rupert, an increasingly desperate and angry Charles decided to take measures into his own hands. And he ended up here.

Surprisingly, V is down to destroy the Saturn Initiative! The pair begin planning missions to take down the SI and its power hungry CEO-

-which leads to, in a terrible confrontation, Rupert and his new squadron encounter Charles looking for information about the SI’s internal systems that the government also came to secure. There's a heated confrontation where Rupert tries to wrangle answers out of Charles and Charles tries to tell him the truth. However, Rupert refuses to believe the SI is dangerous- he trusts his superiors. Charles attacks and makes off with the information, leaving Rupert reeling with shock and horror at seeing the revived, cybernetic body of his best friend.

Cut back to Henry! The Toppats’ spies have been picking up trouble brewing at the Wall, and they're planning to take advantage of it to free the Toppats left to rot there by Terrence. As they're planning, Henry learns a horrible fact: Ellie is the second in command at the wall. 

But he has no time to reflect on this! They're heading for the Wall, because the Toppats are told that this unrest could bubble over any day now.

V tells Charles she'd like him to check out the unrest at the Wall. He agrees, and they begin making their way over.

PART 2: THE WALL

Everyone converges on the Wall. The Toppats are there to rescue their own, Ellie’s staging a breakout, and Charles is there to sightsee!

The breakout begins. Ellie goes into the control room, kills the guards, and opens all the cells. The riot begins as she makes her way to the top, where she's sure Dmitri will be controlling things. 

The airship arrives, and Henry wastes no time jumping off the airship (to Reginald’s horror) and getting to the ground so he can do things with as few casualties as possible. He considers going to look for Ellie, but his choices are stringing him along and he has little choice but to follow them to his Toppats. And, if she's the second in command of the Wall… he couldn't bear to know that she might hate him.

Ellie gets to the top. Grigori finds her and attacks her, certain this is all her fault. She blasts him away with her powers and continues. 

Ellie finds Dmitri, and he begins to call for her aid. She instead attacks him, and in a quick and dirty battle, stabs him through with her spear. He falls, dying. Ellie stands over him, relishing this moment, when she hears someone coming at her.

It's Grigori, and as she spins around, he takes her moment of distraction to slash her right eye out. She blasts him away, but the damage is done. She's badly injured. She limps off into the forest.

Henry leads the Toppats out under the guise of being a normal Toppat like them. They reach the chaos of the upper level. The airship has descended at this point, and everyone rushes to get on.

Henry, seeing the dead body of Dmitri (but, oddly, not Grigori) and the trail of blood leading into the forest, hesitates. But Reginald calls for him, and he forces himself to leave with the Toppats.

But you know who else saw the blood? Charles! He follows it to find an unconscious Ellie, and has a strange moment of Déjà vu. He tells V he's coming home with a new friend, picks her up, and flies off.

Henry gets on the airship and reluctantly reveals his chieftain status. The rescued Toppats- many elites who disagreed with Terrence’s leadership- are now doubly loyal to him. Reginald scolds Henry for risking himself like that, but agrees the heist went well. Henry hides his concern about Ellie and Charles and agrees to a celebration.

AND THE FUTURE

And that's where we leave off here! Dmitri is dead, Grigori is missing, Charles just found (who he doesn't yet know to be) his other half and V is setting her sights on the SI’s newest venture- investigating these new, strange things called anomalies- while Henry is quickly settling into his new role, and Rupert is in misery. 

There's a lot more I didn't cover! The CCC is here, dragged into this new world alongside Henry, fractured and operating under emergency protocols, missing six of nine supervisors. They seem to have some serious beef with Henry, if their dogged assassination attempts are to go by. The Saturn Initiative has a history with Dr V! Anomalies seemingly didn't exist in this world until Henry arrived! Henry’s powers are really weird and he also can't die anymore! Also, what's up with that redacted stuff?

I have SO MUCH STUFF for this AU, and I plan to start posting more intro posts and information about it :)

Scales

Dee ran, his tiny footsteps crunching the small twigs and leaves underfoot as he stumbled through the woods. The dogs were gaining on him and he could hear the shouts of the riot behind him. He scrambled in the dark, his haphazard path lit only bu moonlight. His chest ached, lungs burning from how much he’d been running but if he stopped they would catch him. Tears streamed down his cheeks, the scales that marked him as a Witch irritated from the salty tracks. 

 He was so scared! “I’m sorry-!” He called. “I’m sorry mama!” But she would not answer.

He could barely see and when he glanced back he whimpered, seeing the fires of the torches. He had to keep going, he had to find safety!

Dee gasped as he tripped, slamming into the ground hard and dislodging several mushrooms that puffed up in alarm at the actions of their fallen kin. He curled up in pain into a little ball, knowing he was going to die and trying to apologize, hoping they would spare him from the dogs and the fire. 

But none of it came. He felt a soft gentle touch to his arm and he winced but looked up. Large unblinking blue eyes looked down at him a little too big with a smile a little to wide, but nothing about this eerily inhuman person was threatening to him. “Hey there Kiddo. You look lost. Won’t you come dance with us?” 

Dee blinked and sat up immediately, looking around. “W-where are-” 

“The dogs? There aren’t any dogs any more little one, you’re safe here. Come. Dance with us.” He could hear faint music and wiped the tears from his eyes, taking the hold of the other’s hand. It was soft and gentle and he wobbled on his bare feet, following him through soft grass into a clearing. People were dancing and singing and the person he was following smiled. “I am Patton. That dancing fool is Roman What is your name?.” He giggled and it sounded like bells and Dee’s eyes went wide as he saw the beautiful butterfly wings on his back. Dee blinked. “I’m Dee.” He was mesmerized watching the red winged faerie, Roman, dance and laugh as he moved and tried to get a purple-winged one to join, but he wasn’t having it. 

“Attention!” Patton called “Look who wandered into our woods!” 

A dark blue winged fae stepped closer and Dee hid behind Patton’s legs, frowning. But the others stood and began to come closer. “Hello little one, I am Logan. This is Roman and Virgil. You look afraid, what has happened?” 

“The villagers were chasing him.” Patton says softly.

“How awful! Can you tell us why?” Logan asks. 

“They…” Dee gulped. “They say I’m a witch…..” He  prepared himself to be run out of the clearing but instead he felt himself being lifted and he gasped, twirled around by Roman who excitedly and delightedly cheered. 

“A witch! That is wonderful! You have such pretty scales!” 

“I do?!” Dee gasped happily and the twirling made him giggle. 

“Yes love, they are gold and beautiful! Do you want to stay here with us and dance and eat and be happy forever little one?” Dee looked around the clearing at the other fae. Logan was playing a flute again and Virgil drummed lightly on a beaded and feathered drum, creating a lovely melody that made Dee want to shake and move in his relief. “We will protect you and love you like our own! We have always wanted to have a child but we were too uncertain about taking one.” 

“It didn’t feel right to steal.” Patton nodded and spun around the clearing. Roman set Dee down and Dee heard the music and started to wiggle. 

“All of you?” He asked and happily they danced for a few minutes until his little mind thought of something and he stopped his wiggles. “And… you won’t get tired of me?” He remembered how upset his parents were about seeing his scales bloom after he used magic and big tears spilled down his cheeks again. 

Patton gasped and Logan and Virgil stopped playing to look up. Immediately they all crowded around and pulled him into their arms. “Little one we would never ever leave you. You are filled with magic just like we are, and you are lost and sad and we want you to be happy.” Logan explained. 

“Yeah kid, we would never send you back to the people who would want you dead. You’re special.” He smiled gently. “You remind me of me. And trust me, if you stay here long enough you’re gonna probably get wings too.” 

Dee’s eyes went wide. “I CAN BE A FAERIE?!” He gasped, his little child brain so absolutely excited about that and he hugged Virgil tightly. “YES YES YES! I wanna be a faerie!”  

The others hugged him tight and they smiled happily. “Welcome home little one~” 

That was centuries ago. Somewhere in the woods there is a legend of a witch who was saved by the Gentry. None would dare to cross them, and none would dare to find them. It is whispered in the shadows of the trees when the moon is full that there is a handsome young man with scales as golden as starlight who runs wild and free with the fae hunting and playing and laughing, happier than he had ever been as a human.

Son of Clay

Read from beginning ch.3 Kofi Ao3

Dirk would like to say he felt bad about what he'd done to Jake, but the truth is, he felt no shame...the human abandoned him and his gran had never allowed boats in this lagoon, none of his family had, what gave him that right? Especially after abandoning Dirk. It made him bitter, but the son of clay was back, and with him, the heavy ache in Dirk's chest. A reminder of what he'd wanted for so long, and desired for even longer. He wanted this son of clay. But the anger still bubbled below the surface, but never truly overwhelming the hollow emptiness inside him.

He didn’t think the human would be coming back to the waters edge anytime soon, especially seeking him out, not with a bit of some meat in hand and throwing it out before calling him like a dog. He glared at the human from where he watched behind the rock before swimming away, the bubbling anger faded into mild indignation and faint amusement as he dived beneath the dark waves.

The morning came and with it the boy, a soft musical sound coming from a box in his hands. He made noises, not unlike his child laughter when the dog had tripped him, except now the box made him make the noises. Dirk didn’t realize how close he’d gotten until the boy waved at him, he glared looking at him and the box, his eyes darting between them, when that box was extended towards him he started and swam back, not meaning to but becoming smug as the boy got a face full of water. The boy looked a little shocked before laughing himself. The sound deeper, more musical, it reminded Dirk of the instruments that played when his grandma married. The brass ones that carried notes for the flutes to dance with. Dirk swam under again smiling slightly, the anger slowly evaporating, his son of clay was back, and he was laughing...and he knew Dirk was here.

With sunset, the son of clay waded to one of the overhanging rocks and brought more stacks with him. Clearly planning to eat dinner, the box from before beeping and making music again. Dirk watched him slowly edging forward until he sat the box down. Snatching it Dirk backed up as the boy yelled in surprised. He held it out of the water looking at it.

“It’s a game boy, please don’t drop it.” The boy said and Dirk started before swimming forward and placing it down again before backing out of reach. He looked at the other confused, the game boy still playing those musical beeps passively. “It’s a toy, but if it gets wet it may break... I bought it when gran and I went to Japan.”

Dirk feels the bitter anger rise again as Jake mentions his departure. “Why’d you leave me!” he blurts, the ache in his chest growing again. He felt like he was being battered again like he should sink, he wanted to destroy that box and its beeping….it was a memory of what made Jake leave.

“I didn’t know you were here. If gran did she never told me.” the son of clay said and Dirk looked at him glaring before backing up again. “Don’t go, or at least tell me your name.” He said his green eyes wide, like the pools more inland. Dirk felt the bitter angry ache turn to something heavier, sadder.

“I...my name is Dirk,” he said and with that vanished again, disappearing under the waves but not before he heard it breathe off the boy's lips like a prayer like it was the name of a god, he wanted to touch Jake and hear his name be said like that. At that the thought he was almost sure he’d make the water boil from the heat on his scaled cheeks.

More days came and went where Jake, the son of clay, sat by the sea edge not every day did Dirk join him, watching him from afar. Admiring him like he had those before him. Their small shapes, children they'd been called had always been more amusing. As they tripped in the loose sand or struggled to learn to swim in his waters. Dirk often swimming beneath them out of sight in case they grew tired or got caught in a tide, but this was different. He didn't know why...but Jake knowing about him made things better. Jake would talk at the water as if Dirk was right there. And not hiding by a rock out of sight of the other.

His voice echoed across the waves making Dirk feel warm. On days with clear sky’s he would talk for hours, and Dirk would edge ever closer to him until he listened at his feet. At first, it was an odd place to be. But not a place dirk didn’t want to be as he listened to the Son of Clay talk. The sun sinking lower and lower.

“You know, you glow once the moon graces us,” Jake said one afternoon. Dirk jerked a bit surprised at being addressed so directly. “You glow with the light I’ve only seen on my computer in shows talking about the depths...it's utterly beautiful you know.” He said and Dirk felt his face burn.

“You’re beautiful…” He said and threw himself into the crashing waves, vanishing out of sight before Jake could call him back.

Kiss

“Woah, your highness, stop!” Remy held his hand out as he rushed across the road, reaching for the young prince. “Don’t move, just back up!” 

The other paused and stood up, tilting his head. “Rem?” He asks. “What are you doing-” 

“SHH! Don’t talk, and stp saying names! Don’t say anything else R- your highness, just…. Just come here ok?” He held his hand out again, the look of fear on his face matching the urgency to his tone. They had just been out trying to find a place to make camp when the horses started to get nervous and Roman had bent to try and find wood for the fire.Prince Roman stood up and rolled his eyes, taking two deliberate steps closer to his personal knight, whose eyes were trained on something behind him sharply, refusing to look away. “Happy now? How is it that any other time you’d be asleep but I walk in a certain direction and you panic?”  

Remy rolled his eyes. “Shut it sire. Entering a faerie circle is an easy way to get killed.” 

Roman’s eyes twinkled. “Since when are you superstitious my knight? A faerie ring is just a bunch of toadstools.” To prove it, he took three deliberate steps back and Remy gasped and stiffened, still looking behind Roman.

“Y-your highness- whatever you do don’t turn around.” 

A thin, delicate pair of hands slipped gently around the prince’s neck as he stood, his mocking laughter dying in his throat as he felt the touch. 

“Hello little prince~ Have you come to give me your kiss~?” 

Remy drew his sword, staring at the fae, all too tall with limbs that were too long and eyes as black as obsidian gems that barely showed past the hair as purple as the flowers that grew naturally in his hair. The teeth he spoke through were far too sharp and his touch was cool and warm all at once. “Let him go!” The fae ignored him.

“So brave of you to speak boldly, little prince, or perhaps just idiotic, hmm?” Roman did not turn around and swallowed thickly, taking a step forward way from the fae whose tone turned sharp. “Do not insult me.” 

“Forgive me Fair One.” Roman’s voice was shaky. “I meat no insult but your greatness is beyond my… my understanding and I am inadequate to give you anything worthy of your brilliance.” 

“Flattery! Oh how cute, are you afraid little prince? Good~” He spun the Prince around and Roman gasped and looked away, refusing to meet it’s gaze. “You may call me….” He smirks. “Virgil~ Now…..” Roman winced when he felt thin fingers running over his face and cheeks and dragging his chin up. “Don’t you want to look at me~?” 

“Your brilliance would blind me.” He said carefully, knowing that if he was not careful this could go very very wrong.

“I am offering you the gift of seeing my visage. You would deny it?” 

“A gift though it may be, I cannot look without knowing my safety upon viewing such splendour is guaranteed. Can you vow that the sight of you would not enthrall me?” 

There was a pause. “I vow it.” 

Roman looked up and gasped at the beautiful creature n front of him both terrifying and beautiful in a way he had no words to describe.

“May I have your name?” 

“You would keep it forever.” He hesitated and felt Virgil’s grip bruise his arms where he was being held. “You may call me Princey if it pleases you.” 

Virgil hummed thoughtfully. “Not as stupid as you look Princey.” He loosened his grip and leaned in close. “Am I not beautiful? I am lonely in this forest and you are amusing. Will you not stay a while?” 

“You are very beautiful Faerie…..” He said gently. “The Gentry always are. But I was foolish to fall into your web.” 

“I am no spider. Give me your kiss as an apology.” 

“I fear what you will do if I kiss you.” 

Virgil smiles and leans in close, wrapping his arms around roman’s neck and pressing his bare form against Roman’s, making him blush profusely. “I wish to taste you Princey~ You are such a pretty little prince, will you not acquiesce?” Roman shuddered at the sound of that and he could hear Remy pacing, trying to find an opening. 

Roman’s lips curled lightly. “You are very beautiful, Virgil.” He takes a step back and Virgil presses closer. 

“Do not leave Princey.” 

“You would like my kiss would you not?” Roman grinned and leaned in closer but pulled back ad Virgil tried to meet him. “A little farther, pretty love~” 

“Give me your kiss.” 

“I will kiss you.”  He leans in quickly and Virgil is surprised as he kisses him deeply and drags him back and out of the fae circle, slightly stumbling. Though quick, it’s one of the most amazing feelings Roman had ever experienced. Virgil hissed as he pulled when the sword of iron pointed at his throat made him still. 

“Go back to your circle fae.” Remy said firmly. “You have been outwitted, take it in the grace your kind so openly appears.” He watched him sink away and Remy grinned.

Virgil glared like fire and death as they walked away. He touched fingers that were far to long to his lips and smiled. He liked this little prince. He wanted this little prince.

Dream bubbles had a 10/10 on the weird shit scale sburb seemed to keep uping. First, his planet was full of skeletons that Jake had adored, and now apparently there were dream bubbles full of deceased trolls that seemed to always know where to find him. Especially the one with the red sweater, always there to lecture him on something. First, it was his TV that flashed images from questionable pornos. To inform him that having a head of snoop dogg in front of his door was unsafe and sacrilegious. Then he finally decided to throw some useful information, don’t get involved with the purple boxer wearing skeleton and his cat girlfriend.  

And who did he find sitting on his bed with an assortment of brightly colored bottles spread out in a natural spectrum. Oh boy. This one did what? She had horns that resembled cat ears in a weird candy way. She was grinning excitedly and a Pusheen cat sweater that matched the one Roxy had acquired. This was the cat girl. She dealt with what? Romance?

“Sit,” she says and picks up a bottle of bright pink nail polish shaking it.

“No I think I have something else to do,” Dirk mumbles and turns to leave.

“I’ll go get Kankitty.”

“Condomkitty?” Dirk turned around asking his voice rising in pitch.

“KAN KITTY.” Ow ok was there really a reason to screech. “Sit.”

Dirk made his way to the bed and sat across from her,”Okay, what are you here for?”

“A little kitten told me you have some ship purroblems and I’m here to make those woes better,” She was smiling widely again at him.  

Dirk nodded,”What’s the nail paint for?” His asked picking up a neon orange and looking at it. It would look nice on his nails. He’d painted them with Roxy once. It had been fun, she’d managed to send him some baby pink nail polish, and they painted them over Skype and watched a movie, that was before this hellscape of a game.

“I’m going to paint your nails and we are going to talk buster!” She said,”You like the neon orange then? Purrhaps we should do them in that color?” She said her smile going from a satisfied cat who ate the canary to a gentler kitten smile. She was a sweet girl.

“Uh yeah sure. I guess?” he said and offered her his left hand first. “Why are you doing this? Kankitty told me to avoid you, something about your boyfriend being a bad influence.”

“Yeah. He isn’t fond of Purloz. Purrsonally I think he’s just a tad bit jelly!” she said getting softer before giggling like a little school girl. Heh. She’s so cute. What could possibly be so bad about her?

She shook the bottle of neon orange and shook the bottle up before unscrewing the lid and starting on his pinky. It was such a bright color.

“Now Dirk how long did mew and Jake date?” Her voice is conversational if a little curious.

“I don’t know, a few months?”He said and shrugged. He really didn’t keep up with the time. It was hard to here. But he’d loved every moment with Jake.

“Why did mew break up?”

Dirk shrugged. He’d rather not talk about it. He was clingy. He was a nuisance. He didn’t know how to let Jake do what he wanted. He’d coerced him into getting a tattoo.  He- “Words Dirk dear.”

He sighed,”I’m a shit boyfriend. I couldn’t let Jake leave, I go to sleep with him by me and wake up and he’d be gone. He’d go adventuring without me and I would blow up his phone with messages because I was so scared he’d be hurt. That I wouldn’t be there to protect him. He’s a page, he’s raw unrealized potential. He doesn’t know how important he is. How much I need him…” He said softly. His voice did not just crack. He was not about to cry. “I’d try to pull him closer and he needed room to breathe. I kept pulling him closer and he kept trying to push me away, and now I can’t even hold his hand anymore.”

“Mew purr thing. Mew were clingy, there’s no shame in wanting attention, especially if what I’ve heard from Roxy is true. You grew up alone, looking for attention in any form, building bots, and sewing puppets. You were starved from personal interaction.” She said and smiled at him. “Kankitty was the same until he decided to be celibate.”

Dirk shrugged,”So you’re saying I should vow of all forms of sexual contact. Wow, that’ll fix my problem since it obviously didn’t lead to my clingy nature at all.” He mumbled clearly unhappy with the suggestion. A hand smacked on his arm and flinched,”What was that for!” he said snatching his arm back causing her to smear nail polish on his finger.

“You’re being a butt head, mister!” She said snatching his arm back and starting on the next finger. “I’m not saying you should be Celibate, I’m saying you should work with Roxy and Jane and Jake and work this out. There is truly nothing wrong with being starved for touch, there’s nothing wrong with wanting it, you just have to talk with mewr furriends and find a way to work it out.” She wiped some polish off the edge of his finger. “I love to cuddle with Purrloz and Kankitty, and it took us talking to decide on a way for all of us to fulfill my cuddle needs.”

Dirk nodded and shrugged,”I’m pretty sure I’ve fucked my bridge with Jake. He won’t even answer my messages…”

Anomaly Prequels

After the Triple Threat ending, Henry expects to finally live his happily ever after. However, Ellie, Charles, Reginald, and RHM begin to remember their past lives in the resets. Now Henry must contend with the betrayed and vengeful Toppat leaders while helping his partners with their newfound memories. Includes storylines like Ellie's Family Reunion.

Culminates in a final fight between TT and the Toppat chieftains, where Charles is brought to the brink of death, Ellie is nearly glitched from the world, and Henry is forced to make a terrible choice about the future of his timeline.

From there, this story branches into either Anomaly or Retold.

Anomaly

At the end of the prequels, Henry takes Charles to Dr. V, and he is healed and given cybernetics. In another fight, Henry is glitched and opens a portal to a new universe. TT and the Toppat chieftains are thrown into a new world filled with magic, chaos, and a new organization strangely obsessed with pursuing Henry's younger self.

Retold

Henry wakes up in a new timeline where he is already the chieftain of the Toppats. Henry must hide the fact that he is not this world's Henry while searching for his missing partners. (Don't tell the other AUs, but this one is my favorite!)

Skywatchers

Summary: Based on another dream. A zombie apocalypse hits where the undead float up into the sky and hang suspended in the air, and then at random intervals drop back to the earth to spread the plague. The world returned to some semblance of normalcy, but the looming threat of the undead lingers. Skywatchers, commonly college kids hired to gather on rooftops and watch the sky for any Fallers, remain the first line of defense against the hovering plague.

Wal-mart on a Saturday was the gates of hell incarnate. Wal-mart on any day was hell incarnate, but on Saturday, it was the literal gates of hell as they opened up and consumed those who dared walk through its doors.

It just happened that today he ran out of banana’s and that is all Rose wants to eat lately. Dave had diaper rash and a wind burnt face, vaseline would fix that right up, and walking past the backpack display he saw the backpack Rose had screamed over, naturally, he grabbed it too and ran off to the most likely crowded lines of three cash registers.

He tried to sneak into the self-checkout because how the fuck do you explain, a singular banana, a large tub of vaseline, and a Dora the Explorer backpack? The answer is you don’t. But of fucking course, the fucking pieces of shit breaks and he has to call over the supervisor.

What could possibly go wrong at this point, let's make a list shall we, Wal-mart on Saturday: Check. Obscure items that will have people question if you’re gonna masturbate: Check. Broken self-checkout: Yep that too. The only thing left to go wrong is if the guy Dirk is waiting on was hot enough to be a model.

Speaking of where was it, it had been fifteen minutes and he was a single dad with two little monsters to take care of that had been left with his best friend.

Tapping his foot impatiently he looked around and saw the supervisor finally coming and guess what, of course, he’s hotter than the fucking Texas sidewalk in this god forsaken heat.

“Sorry that took so long chap, there was one rip-snorting mess over by the beauty products and I had to direct people away from it while they scrounged up a wet floor sign.” Oh great, a fucking accent. “Anyway, what’s the dealio with your check out…?” He, trailed off as he looked at the items on the side of the checkout. One banana, a large tub of vaseline, and a Dora the Explorer backpack.

“Yeah, sorry, I’m in a rush, will you enter your pin so it’ll unfreeze and scan my items,” I swear to god I’m not gonna go home and do what you think I’m doing pal.

“I don’t have the pin you need so how about I check you out instead?” He said giving a big dumb goofy grin with two big teeth. Not waiting for Dirk’s answer Jake, as his name tag read, grabbed the items and started walking off to what was a formally closed register and starting it up.

Dirk followed after him certainly not red-faced, absolutely not staring at his butt in his khakis, and obviously not considering trying to get this guys number. He stepped up on the opposite side of the register looking just about everywhere but Jake’s green eyes. “I swear I can explain all of these items.” Would telling him he had kids ruin his chances? Probably.

“Well I’d be perfectly happy without knowing as well,” Jake said smiling friendly as he bagged the items.

“I’m getting them for a friend,” Dirk said, his voice didn’t just crack. It did not.

“Now sir, I think we both know that’s baloney, so why don’t you tell the truth or don’t say anything.”

“Can I just have your number and we talk about it over dinner,” his voice absolutely did not just pitch up three octaves and sound like a prepubescent girl’s.

With a full-bodied laugh, Jake snorted and cackled at Dirk while he turned redder. “Can I have my shit now,” Dirk snapped holding his hand out for the bag trying not to look as embarrassed as he felt.

“Sure I’ll see you at eight,” Jake said and wrote his number onto the receipt and handing to Dirk. “Have a nice day chap.”

That did not just work. Dirk just got his number. Holy shit. Feeling pumped Dirk left the store grinning like a jackass as he left and got into his car.

Humans are a mystery. Possibly one of the greatest mysteries of this universe. And there are a lot of mysteries in this world. But humans pretty much take that confectioners cake and shove it in their pants before trying to deny the icing on their zipper.

          For example, what kind of shit human being abandoned a box of kittens on the side of the highway. They didn’t even leave the mother with them. They just left the kittens on the side of the street.

          Barely a few days old, eyes not even open yet, the box had been left on the sidewalk by a stop sign. A thin towel the only warmth offered to the tiny grey bodies inside. Small little wriggling things, their fur dampened by the mist. They were pathetic.

          And Dirk as cold as he wasn’t heartless. He lifted the box barely keeping the box from falling apart. God, he’d feel like shit if one of these little guys fell out. On second thought, he put his hand in the box and touch them gently.

          He squatted down and unzipped his hoodie. He picked up the kittens and set them on the ground beside him, his heart clenching at the sad mewls of protest they offered. He picked up the slightly soggy towel and squeezed most of the water out of it.

          He spread it out and started placed the first squirming grey body on it. Followed by the second third fourth and fifth. He Folded the towel around them and stuck them in the front of his hoodie. He struggled with the zipper but managed to successfully zip the kittens against his chest. Cradling them he started his walk home.

          Wet and back at home Dirk rang the doorbell, listening as his roommate moved around on the other side of the door. No doubt looking for her house robe so she could answer the door. “Meulin forget your robe just open the door!” he called knowing she couldn’t hear him, even with her hearing aid in.

After a couple of painfully cold minutes, the lock clicked on the door and his roommate stood before him, her fluffy pink robe wrapped around her, a white kitten on the hem chasing a ball of yarn. Dirk pushed past her and headed for the bathroom, jerking his head at her for her to follow him.

          After the kittens were dry and wrapped in little sock sweaters – oh socks, your sacrifice is not forgotten – he sat next to the plastic laundry basket trying to make a list and keep up with Meulin’s signing of things they’d have to buy in order to support the new freeloaders. It’s a good thing Dirk had a stable job as a grease monkey. Because it looked like they were going to be up a lot and would be taking care of these kittens forEVER an indefinite amount of time. And they were already letting him know how unhappy they were that their bellies were empty.

One quick run to Petsmart later, Dirk returned carrying bags of powdered kitten formula. He also had little droppers, and flea combs, not wanting to get the tiny creatures wet again after just drying them off.

He let Meulin mix the formula, waiting patiently for his designated droppers to feed the small kittens. Taking him he sat down by the laundry basket and got one of the grey balls of fluff. He poked the dropper to its lips until it mewled in protest at his somewhat poor knowledge of how to feed kittens.

Eventually, he got the small kittens mouth open and it started suckling on the dropper.

Weeks of many sleepless nights, - even with Meulin diligently feeding the kittens every four hours and helping him remember to set alarms to make sure he did his own share of feeding the little ones - pass and he now sits holding the box of kittens outside of a local no-kill shelter. They mewl and play in the box, shaking it. The littlest one is missing, Meulin having claimed it as her own and naming it Mewtins. The others will go to good homes within a few days.
