Lae is a doll in an almost literal sense; one of Azem’s many constructs and familiars, she was a companion on outings more than anything else else, and Azem took every excuse they could get to dress her up in some new finery, change her hair, and the like.

She doesn’t know why she escaped the sundering. She doesn’t know how or why she’s now on The Source. She is only beginning to realize that she now has free will, and all that that entails.

Does she now have a soul, as well? Or does she merely appear to have one? Even she couldn’t tell you that.

(Lae was born from my own wish to have a character who would wear things that an’fa wouldn’t canonically wear, as well as to play out my favorite troupe in media: “learning what it means to be human”. see violet evergarden and rei in one of the eva movies, idr which one lol, for more examples)
