Fagioloni - Temporary Score: 4
Description: short, narrow, almost-tube; "large beans"; like a penne green bean, only not green, not penne, and not a bean; similar shapes that i have arbirarily decided are the same: fricelli, daterri baresi
First Take Points: 4 - sigh. i can't decide what i think about this pasta shape. it does hold sauce well, but it's really thick, so it cooks a bit unevenly unless you leave it on the boil for AAAAAAAGES. i went green and greek with my first take: some shredded green cabbage and thinly sliced green bell pepper and mandolined jalapeno, plus a whole lot of greek freak seasoning and a little bit of white wine/butter sauce. it was really yummy! but, it would have been just as yummy without the pasta, and i just can't get my opinions to engage on this shape.
Remix Bonus Points: 0 - i think this is the first pasta shape i've given no remix points to? feels rude, and i do have some left so eventually there will be a remix dish, i just can't think of anything i actually want to put this shape into.
Amusement Points: 3 - THIS PASTA CONFUSES ME. but the fagioloni and the daterri baresi versions look like little canoes, and they do in fact hold wineybuttery sauce very well. and i'm awarding an extra point just because i lumped all three of these together and this way they get a point apiece. never let it be said i'm unfair to my pastas.
Annoyance Deductions: 3 - THIS PASTA CONFUSES ME. also, the translation in wikipedia calls them beans. they do not resemble beans and this annoys me greatly. also also, they were rather hard to acquire.
Alternative Uses: well, they could be used to annoy and confuse me, for one. and since fagioloni looks like a little canoe, i surmise it could be used as a little canoe. just not in a boiling lake, 'cause eventually it will cook - unevenly! - and slowly dump it's passengers into the boil. not a great advertisement.
